Free taking to decide drawn NHL knockout games

(Oldest Posts First)

So this is something I completely missed. Apparently, for this years NHL quarter and semi finals, drawn matches will be decided by a free taking competition, if the sides are still level after extra time. I'm not sure what to make of this. Does anyone know the format of this free taking competition? Is it just taking frees until someone eventually misses?

I would imagine its format would be a little more complex that hitting frees from 65 til someone misses - with the way the game is now they could be taking them for weeks.

I think it should be a ground hurling shooting competition, ball rolled back to the player, he has 1 touch and then shoots at an open goal. I know 1 thing, one would be missed quicker than you think.
