Cuala are trying to become the first Dublin club to reach the St Patrick's day hurling final , while Slaughtneil are trying to break all kinds of records, including becoming the first Derry club in hurling, and becoming the first club to reach both the hurling and football final on the same year. clonjon (Dublin) - Posts: 665 - 24/02/2017 15:49:04 1960256 Link 0 |
The Derry men have every chance here. No disrespect to Cuala but the fact that it's not a Kilkenny or Offaly side Slaughtneil are facing is a big factor mentally. Slaughtneil have been here before and they have nothing to lose. They may as well go out with all guns blazing. Ulsterman (Antrim) - Posts: 9688 - 24/02/2017 16:16:37 1960266 Link 0 |
What makes Cuala such firm favourites? They were my pick from the start of the championship way back last Sept and yes I would like to see Dublin Hurling success. Coming from a neighbouring county I hope Cuala leave their success until 2018. Slaughtneill showed they are a fit team in the SFC AI Semi-final where St Vincent's were highly fancied, so with 15 minutes to go if it is tight there will be only one winner. As for the bookies odds I don't believe you can write off the Slaughtneill hurlers that beat Loughguile (AI Champions) out the gate in the Ulster final this year and have taken Cushendall (last year's AI finalists) to a replay two years ago. Also Armagh is a familiar ground to Slaughneill with the aforementioned matches both being played there. 1/8 will flatter Cuala, but who ever wins I will be shouting them on as both Dublin (club) and Derry (county) hurling need a shot in the arm. Don't forget the women! Slaughtneils Camogs are also in the AI senior decider. Could be a unique treble if the stars line up right. Offside_Rule (Antrim) - Posts: 4058 - 24/02/2017 16:45:19 1960278 Link 0 |
St. Finbarr's reached both finals in 1980 or 1981, I believe. You'd have to wonder how much preparation Slaughtneil would have gotten for this after they won the Ulster hurling title. The football would've taken priority until after the St. Vincent's game whereas Cuala woud've had zero distractions. Still, they've a fighting chance & clearly a massive club spirit. They know the grounds in Armagh very well too & Ulster teams always like to play neutral games in Ulster! Their manager said they've played 3 challenge matches. Anyone know against who? keeper7 (Longford) - Posts: 4088 - 24/02/2017 17:19:11 1960288 Link 0 |
Easy win for Cuala as expected. They outclassed Slaughtneil from start to finish. MesAmis (Dublin) - Posts: 13692 - 25/02/2017 16:30:16 1960516 Link 0 |

That's a serious Cuala team. Should be a great final against Ballyea. keeper7 (Longford) - Posts: 4088 - 25/02/2017 17:20:40 1960538 Link 0 |

Patronising guff. If Ulster sides had even a tenth of the funding that Dublin hurling gets they may have a chance.

Well done to Cuala, serious team. Slaughtneil fought hard. Double campaign probably too much. Nothing to be ashamed of and good luck in the football.l Glensboy (Antrim) - Posts: 286 - 25/02/2017 17:57:56 1960555 Link 1 |

Yes there was no way Cuala would have won that only for the trillions of euro the Dublin county board pumped into them from the never ending pot of cash the dub have. Brianmac78 (Dublin) - Posts: 1168 - 25/02/2017 20:21:03 1960603 Link 1 |

When was the last time a Dublin side were even in a club SHC semi? If its all down to money, this shouldn't be the first time a Dublin club has made the final. And how did this financial imbalance not stop Ruairí Óg getting to the final last year, and Loughgiel winning it in 2012?

Fantastic player. He'll be hurling well into March now! I wonder would he link up with the county hurlers after that? He'd be well down the pecking order with Jim Gavin by then, no...?
