This is one of the oldest & strongest derbies/rivalries in the GAA. Both these teams contested several Ulster finals in the 1800's. Monaghan Exile (Monaghan) - Posts: 441 - 08/02/2017 18:46:25 1953746 Link 2 |

Read his post again. Anyway, that's me done with sticking up for a monaghan man. Whats the story lads, are ye going to move the game to clones or what? Everybody loves Clones! cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 4977 - 09/02/2017 11:26:02 1953925 Link 0 |
Well it's me that looks stupid now! I'll keep my nose out of stuff I know nothing about in the future!

Bound to draw a decent crowd and the crack is sure to be good in Castleblaney Sunday evening.... hurler32 (Limerick) - Posts: 867 - 09/02/2017 12:08:01 1953941 Link 0 |
We are too afraid to play it in Clones CavanMan, haven't you heard?! It should be moved in all fairness, it would halve the distance for most Cavan supporters and make it much more comfortable especially for families. Nothing between the teams on the pitch I would say, well except for mcmanus. That is a double edged sword for Monaghan because there is a huge reliance on his genius. Cavan probably have a physical edge and a better midfield-half forward line. Also, Monaghan do not do well when expected to win, so this could be one to avoid in the weekend accumulators. Cavans new additions to the panel look pretty good too, Smith and faulkner in particular . Where is Michael Argue by the way? You mean football? Don't be so hard on yourself - you could be one of the 300 ;) cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 4977 - 09/02/2017 12:54:31 1953963 Link 0 |
Yeah Smith has started the year in great form. Faulkner is around the panel a couple of seasons now but has had injuries. He'd be my pick to mark McManus with a sweeper in front. Argue is on the panel but didn't make the 24 for the Dublin game. Not sure if he was carrying a knock. Ray Galligan warmed up last Sunday so could be back in goals which would be huge for us. It'll certainly be tight but if we curtail McManus I'd be quietly confident. Saw enough last Sunday to show we should compete in all remaining games. cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 4977 - 09/02/2017 12:59:00 1953966 Link 0 |
Could be said Monaghan have a bit of form for this Eddie, Tyrone to Inniskeen a few years back springs to mind..... not a bit wonder we turned the lights out on you's in Omagh a couple of years later ;)

I heard Monaghan were going to let McManus carry the team right from breakfast time through to the final whistle. With Blaney closer to Clontibret than Clones I guess the shorter journey should be easier on him. cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 4977 - 09/02/2017 14:47:43 1954009 Link 1 |
One of the games I always enjoy is against the Farney boys. Hasent been a whole lot between us over the last few years so I think it will be tight again. Yes Monagahan have Mc Manus but hopefully we can keep tabs on him. In all fairness he probably has been the best forward in the country for a while, and that coming from a Breffni man !! Surely counties like monaghan and Donegal that have league games in different grounds should be made have games in the ground nearestl the county the are playing. ros1 (Roscommon) - Posts: 1211 - 09/02/2017 15:53:32 1954050 Link 0 |
Nonsense tiobraid! If nobody commented on things they know nothing about then these boards would be empty. ;) extranjero (Wexford) - Posts: 375 - 09/02/2017 16:48:31 1954075 Link 1 |
Castleblayney is the closest ground to Cavan though. Unless you are familiar with back roads to Inniskeen.

Im not sure what game I saw last sunday but cavan were well beaten by Dublin? People suggesting cavan put in a good show but they never looked like winning the game. It was over with 20 left. Dublin won pulling up and knocked a couple over when goals where on. 222 (UK) - Posts: 681 - 09/02/2017 16:56:04 1954079 Link 0 |
222(UK) You probably watched the game on Telly so dont believe everything you see on the box. Do you remember the Dubs easily beating Kerry in last years Lge final? So maybe we arent that bad after all. The 20,000 packed into Breffni certainly enjoyed the fare and maybe if the Kerry ref was a little more even handed the score would have been a lot closer. And a young Cavan team making basic errors will always be punished in a higher League. The Dubs are a class team and nobody can deny that, and the supporters enjoyed their day out in Breffni as well. Castleblaney is Monaghan's closest county pitch to Cavan??? I wouldn't like to be stopping with you on the road asking for directions.

Dublin won comfortably but in the last 20 they weren't pulling up. They put ogara in full forward and pumped in long balls hoping to grab a couple of goals. Cavan dealt well with them. Why on earth would the like of ogara, basquel etc. who are pushing for a start take it easy when given the opportunity? cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 4977 - 09/02/2017 17:27:38 1954088 Link 0 |
I'd say that lad doesn't know where he's from benched.
