Cavan v Dublin

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Really looking forward to this game and the start of our 3 in a row year, can't remember the last time we played Cavan in a competitive match but I always look forward to playing new opposition, can't really comment on how it will go cause I don't know to much about Cavan other than they have the Kildare man Seanie Johnston on board and haven't a clue what Dublin team will be selected but maybe some Cavan folk can give their thoughts on this game?

Cavan will be going all guns blazing I'd imagine in this one and will want to start well in league. Looking forward to the game but would think well have a mixed bag on display and hard to say what way it will go.

2008 was the last time Cavan would have played Dublin in a competitive game. Division 2 League game in Breffni.

Cavan 0-07 Dublin 1- 0-09
S Johnston 0-6 (0-4f), M Lyng 0-1
M Vaughan 0-4 (0-2f), B Brogan 1-1, B McManamon, C Keaney (0-1f) 0-2 each.

Cavan have a lot injuries at present to key players, plus a few others unavailable. A big ask to beat Dublin, Cavan need to defend better then they did in McKenna cup.

TBH our defence seems a bit unsettled going by the mckenna cup. McBrearty and McHugh just walked through. I feel Brogan with his off the ball movement alone could do a lot of damage if he plays.
Cavan will be up for it but with Dublins overall panel I feel they will be way too cute.
If they put the shackles on Seanie I can't see where our scores will come from.
Dublin by 4/5plus.
I'd be happy with a decent 70min performance in that one.

I hate to say it but i can see Cavan causing a big upset. Going by Dublin this year so far not sure what team they will put out but with a new manager Cavan could get pull off a shock win here!

No idea how Dublin are going to line out Sunday week. I think I'll head up for a look in anyways as I haven't been to Breffni Park for awhile.

Could be a good opportunity for Cavan to get points on the board maybe.

Yeah like the above posters have pointed out, I think our own absentees will mean that we won't take full advantage of Dublin's.

I do expect a good game, with us really pushing Dublin, but maybe falling a few points short in the end.

How many of the dubs on here are heading down? Cavan town is a good spot on a busy Saturday night and there'll be a right buzz about the place with the game the following day!

Its only an hour and 15mins drive too so a good opportunity to attend.

Oh nearly forgot. .

If I can fill a car, I'll drive a few dubs down. €10 a man. ;)

I expect a Dublin victory. As i will in every game this year.More than likely though,we will be beaten in a game (maybe two) in this years league as this unbeaten run has to come to an end sometime. No big deal if it does.Another Div 1 title would be nice.Winning is a habit, afterall.

Lets see some of the fringe squad players in action against seasoned, talented Div 1 teams and hopefully a few will grab their chance. The more competition the better.Fresh blood will keep everyone on their toes.Good to see Jack McCaffrey back.Looks like Bastick is going to stay for one more year.I see Dublin winning another league.

The holiday will do the lads the world of good.Batteries recharged.Lads mad for action. Some will be eased into action. All about peaking for the quarter final, semi final and fingers crossed if we make Septembers final, this team will deliver a performance that will blow the opposition away.I am confident that Sam will be staying in the capital for another year at least. To all challengers,we look forward to the each and every battle. We will hold onto our silverware for dear life and it will take a great team to dethrone us.

Make sure to bypass Navan on the way down lads. I'd expect crowds of biblical proportions at Biggy's allstars' opening game of their promotion season.

Impossible to know how this one will go. If we had all our players available and Dublin had an inexperienced outfit then I would say we could put it up to you but as it is, we in Cavan don't really know what to expect as The McKenna Cup posed more questions than it answered. My gut feeling is that we will struggle, hope I'm proved wrong though.

5 in our heading up, I'd say there will big a good crowd taking the short drive up the N3 alright. Quick winter and back into NFL action already, dunno what to expect from us regards team etc but I think we might just have enough to see ye off but with Cavan giving us a good rattle. Roll on Sunday week.

I'll have a bit of that :D what's a good club for an ol' lad like meself, or a late bar at least?

Hard game to call till you see the team sheets (and then they will be changed at the last minute)

If Seanie J comes motivated with his hurl we will be in trouble.

Not sure what you mean by aul lad but the imperial is probably your best bet. It's bang in the middle of the town.

Ha go way outta tha realdub.Forget a club or late bar. You'll be lucky to find an ole shebeen in the sticks, with an outhouse for a jacks, sawdust on the floor, and a few gap-toothed aul lads in tattered suits swiggin out of filthy pint glasses while chewin straw.Think of the two Cavan lads on the Savage Eye!As soon as you drive over the Cavan border it goes back to 1850 (:
