Gary Sice has followed the Mayo players & slated Alan Mullholland three years on from when he was manager & dropped Sice. Mullholland won't be too pleased having his name slated years later by someone. It's ironic when you consider this players performance & that of the Galway team v Tipp in Croke Park this year, which was an embarrassment to Galway football. After all this talk there will be massive expectation after the three years, on this team & management & we are not talking about a Connacht title only but an All Ireland final appearance as well. moc.dna (Galway) - Posts: 1212 - 23/12/2016 11:20:59 1941869 Link 1 |
I expect some Meath players to have a go at Mick O'Dowd too,but it probably be a few years later. :)

its just a shame Galway always get the the superpowers like Tipp in the championship as opposed to an easier passage against Dublin or Kerry. If the luck of the draw was with them we'd be talking about 3 in a row AI's for Galway. Dublin have been extremely lucky in recent years and id go one further and say anything less than Sam will be failure for Galway next year.

Should the players take some of the blame? How many times were Meath ahead and messed it up? That's not the managers fault in my view. Not Meath bashing and I know Mick made errors but a bit of balance won't go a miss.

I was having a bit of a joke to be honest.. But I don't think Meath were fit enough under MOD.I also think that a team on the field always reflects the manager and I believe the Meath team were a reflection of MOD. ziggy32001 (Meath) - Posts: 8354 - 23/12/2016 18:45:01 1941942 Link 0 |
in fairness Mulholland deserves to be slated, he fell out with so many players and tried to bring in too many of his minor/u21 players long before they were ready for senior level. the team he lined out against mayo when we got hammered was as poor as I've seen, a lot of that team cant even make the panel now and some were in central positions that day. he should have kept his mouth shut until he retires alright but Sice has always been the vocal type

Moc I would not compare Sice's comments with what is happening in Mayo. While I would keep my counsel if I was him the Mayo thing is largely a collective issue while Sice/Mull was very individual. It will be interesting to see if Anthony Cunningham does a Holmes/Connelly on it in a Galway hurling context. kiloughter (Galway) - Posts: 1941 - 24/12/2016 11:53:02 1941991 Link 1 |
I wouldn't disagree too much with yourself & galwayfootball1 but Sice goes public about how well things are prepared now & in year 2 of the current management & panel we saw Galway's worst ever capitulation in Croke Park where George Halligan completely dominated Sice, now after that display which for the few that travelled said never again, most would keep their head down. Even after that game Sice was indicating that Tipp knew so much about Galways tactics that it created suspicion as to how they knew certain stuff ? Now going into this panels & management third year there is massive expectation with all the talk, we will have to wait & see. Anything less than promotion from Div 2 & at least an All Ireland semi final will be no better than Mullhollands reign.

Fact is many modern players know more about high performance set ups and elite preparation than most managers at club or county level who are past players and by definition of a bygone era, recent or otherwise. wicklu (Wicklow) - Posts: 331 - 25/12/2016 09:38:55 1942043 Link 1 |
