Pundits of the 21st Century

(Oldest Posts First)

In response to Pat Spillane''s team of the century, I thought it might be interesting to try to name a so-called team (3) of the century of our pundits in football and hurling.
In hurling there are a lot of top pundits to pick from. I would go with Sheedy, Brennan and Loughnane
I think it is more difficult in football as most are poor to average. I would go with Tomas O'Shea, Peter Canavan and Oisin McConville.
What 'teams' would posters pick

I'm a traditionalist so I'd like to see brolly Spillane and O'Rourke and bring back tony Davis .
I can't understand them having Ciaran wheelan as a pundit when he hasn't won an allireland or your man from Westmeath Dolan I think his name is.

Where to begin!

Hahaaaaa! Jesus but some people are just daft and that's all you can say about it.
If winning AIs is the qualifying standard to become a pundit you just have to laugh. The arrogance is not surprising but to insult all those great players who have never won one by discriminating against them on that basis is just pure ignorance.

In fairness its a lot easier to be a pundit than a good player or manager, to a certain extent we are all pundits. (with rose tinted glasses for our own county / club of course) But Ciaran Wheelan and Dessie Dolan are probably to two worse on the TV. Tony Davis is probably the best and fairest pundit on TV followed by Senan Connell and Jarlath Burns. I like Brolly, O`Rourke and Pat for what they say, but sometimes you would wonder are you looking at the same game as them.

Say what you want about not having AI medals but both Whelan and Dolan know more about contemporary football than the 3 stooges (Spillane, Brolly, O Rourke)
I used to really think Jarlath Burns knew what he was on about but given he take on recent rules changes I have changed my mind.

Tony Davis would be the best of the older generation. Then I would Pick Thomas o Se. Last I think Senan Connell is a good shout.

Is there another ex Dub player who does be on Tg4?

Brolly, Spillane and O'Rourke...Anthony Tohill was excellent as well until they inexplicably got rid of him. Colm Parkinson is also very good but on a different platform.

I like Peter Canavan and Tomás Ó'Sé. Dara Ó Ceinneide is very good on TG4 as well.

I can't stand looking at Spillane and Brolly at this stage, don't mind Colm O'Rourke as much.

Mullane and Lodge on Radio 1 doing a match together is one of the highlights of GAA broadcasting.

I don't like Tomas o'se or wheelan as they turned blind eyes towards some of the off the ball stuff the dubs were doing this year and last year , plus they never pulled the officials on some their strange decissions which went the dubs way last this year and last year.

Dolan has an All Ireland U21 medal. He won it against Kerry.

O'Se, Canavan, Connell.
Davis and Tohill were excellent in their day. Whelo is ok. Hope RTE and Sky freshen things up a bit next year-new blood is needed.

Tony Davis was by far the worst pundit RTE ever had. He did no research whatsoever and was just full of patronizing remarks for weaker teams (he is not alone in this I should say).

I would pick Dara O'Cinneide, Anthony Tohill immediately as good, knowledgeable, reasonable, fair pundits. I cannot really think of another one that really jumps out...Joe Brolly is none of the above but he is entertaining.

In hurling, I would pick Donal Og and Ger Loughnane.

Great players don't always make good managers same applies to pundits
