Clarke going back?

(Oldest Posts First)

I personally can't believe that a man who the management embarrassed by dropping him for 3 bad kick outs is going back next year for Mayo . David Clarke you should of walked away in my own opinion.

Why would he be embarrassed?

His absence in the first 45 odd minutes and his performances throughout the campaign showed him to be the best keeper in the country this year. Nothing for him to be embarrassed about.

I think it's universally accepted that dropping him was a mistake. He has been vindicated, and can go back with his head held high. If anybody should be embarrassed it is the management team. They may well have won the All Ireland if they had stuck by him.

He done nothing wrong and probably knows that this Mayo team are so close to winning an All Ireland that it would be silly to walk away when he is a top level goal keeper. The management made the error and he has credit in the bank now.

My post has been changed by admin, I wrote something different but they obviously didn't like what I wrote but liked the subject I was writing about.

Why wouldn't he go back?

He's a grown man not a child. I'm sure he probably disagreed with the management decision but I'd imagine that he is mature enough to accept the decision and try and play his part.

Fair play to him if he goes back I wouldn't he was made a show of last year by management. Very surprised the manager is staying on tbh in mayo. They have gone back since he took over

The Mayo management made a big call in a final, in his (their) first season. It didn't work out. Nothing to see here. They will learn and be all the more hungry for it.

The Mayo Goalkeeping situation has always been a pretty close call, I'm sure they had their reasons but two months later surely people now understand the game was not won and lost solely by this positional switch.

Because Dublin won, nobody questioned the wisdom of dropping possibly the greatest forward of his generation Bernard Brogan and sending on a young forward who hadn't even scored in the All Ireland Series prior and ended up winning them the game, Cormac Costello. What if that had failed? The game in the mixing pot and Gavin springs on someone who's not done it so far?

This thread is only designed to wind up the Mayo lads here to be honest.

So the team that lost the All-Ireland final replay by a point as went backwards under the new management?

You might be right about Clarke but I thought Keegan would have walked after reading that article here on the hs home page released from the county board.
