Galway hurlers to Munster?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

What do posters think of the possibility of this happening?I think this may be a bargaining chip for Galway to use in trying to get more equity in Leinster.I believe they are being harshly treated by not having any Leinster championship games in Galway and it is poor form in not allowing their underage teams to compete in the same province as their senior team.Time for the GAA to act and give Galway some respect.

In my opinion Galway should tell Leinster thank you but no thank you. It is a disgrace how they are being treated. For goodness sake there is no passport control by the Shannon, i am sure Leinster counties would be safe and may actually enjoy a day out in Salthill. Leinster are reaping the rewards of Galway competing whilst showing no compromise. It is time Galway walked away, this would force Croke Park to intervene. There does not seem to be any reasoning with the Leinster board.

could be more a bargaining chip for open draw. Once they go to Munster for a couple of years , heaven forbid win it , the Munster SHC would be suitably devalued to propose Open Draw.

In my opinion Galway went into Leinster at a time of Kilkenny dominance. In the future that dominance may wane.
Galway should stay in Leinster

Tipp. may have a period of dominance in Munster, and Galway will be put into playoffs in any case.

It would be some Munster Championship if Galway were in it. 6 ultra competitive teams battling it out in Munster!!! I for one would like to see that. Would make the Leinster Championship more of a joke than it is now......

Leinster are doing enough in fairness by facilitating all counties bar the Munster 5. It's fair enough that they want Leinster championship matches staged within their province. Being in the Leinster championship is better than where they were before.

I think it would be an advantage to Kilkenny if this were to happen.Galway have made Leinster conpetetive.Dublin have improved in the last 10 years, also.Ok,Kilkenny have won something like 15/18 Leinster finals, but this is an unprecedented era of Kilkenny brilliance as we all know.Surely this can't last?If Galway were to jump ship,Kilkenny would fancy their chances bigtime against Dublin,Offaly and Wexford. It would pretty much kill off the Leinster championship and Munster would be even harder to win than it is now.I feel Galway must stay in Leinster but with equal status.Nothing less should be afforded the tribesmen. In for a penny,in for a pound.Fair play to Galway for putting up with these issues up to now but it's time for Leinster to man up.

Should take Kerry with them.

7 teams in each provincial championship then. Previous year winners get a bye to the semi's with the other 6 playing off for the 3 remaining semi final spots.

3 First round losers playoff against each other in the first qualifier round.

The 3 winners from that are joined by the Christy Ring winners and are drawn against the four provincial semi-final losers in the second qualifier round.

The 2 winners from that then play the 2 provincial final losers in the third qualifier round / AI quarter.

2 winners from that then go into the AI semi's against the 2 provincial winners.

Everybody gets 2 games, Christy Ring winners are accommodated outside of the provincial structure. Maybe omahant can explain it better than me.

Suppose we can't go messing with the Munster championship though…

In fairness its probably more of a bargaining tool than anything else.

HOWEVER, as a (long suffering) Galway supporter of both codes I have worn a path to Tullamore at this stage. Is it really a big ask to Leinster to accommodate Galway a home fixture, even every 2nd year? And to allow the minors and u21's in? I don't think its a huge ask.

I would prefer Galway to stay in Leinster but even away games in Munster would be closer than Tullamore for much of the Galway supporters (Clare or the Gaelic Grounds).

Leinster rejected the Galway request to involve underage teams in the province and to play west of the Shannon. Senior team must be removed from Leinster asap and let the GAA deal with this at national level.

Galway should only consider going south if the underage teams are included and home/away games are scheduled.

The problem with Galway going to Munster is that the latter would become a super competitive province while Leinster would become soft and make it too easy for KK. Open draw time 2018.

Galway should have home games in Leinster no question. They offered to play Offaly in Tullamore last year if Offaly would agree to play them in Galway the next time they were drawn together. Offaly county board agreed to this but were overruled by the Leinster Council as they weren't sure they money generated would stay with the Leinster Council. So while the underage teams not getting can be blamed on the counties, the no home games is a Leinster Council decision

Could it be that the main reason Leinster don't want games in Salthill is down to attendance revenue? It's only fair if Galway have the same rights to home & away games as everyone else in Leinster.

In terms of underage, I can understand some of the reasoning for not facilitating Galway in Leinster. Currently, there are 8 counties already competing at minor & U21 in the province. Kilkenny have not dominated & indeed many of Leinster's lesser lights have taken scalps of the more established counties. Throwing Galway into the mix could potentially upset the development of the game within the province where reaching a Leinster semi-final or final might be seen as justifiable progress by a county like Carlow.

A more competitive championship suits everyone whether it be minor u21 or senior. To be honest the Leinster Championship is dying and needs Galway to keep it somewhat competitive. Having Galway in the senior championship and not having them in the underage championships is ridiculous. Not allowing them home games also is farcical. But this does not surprise me in the slightest as Laois or Carlow are not allowed home games against Dublin in Football either.

galway are dead right here.they should join the leinster championship at underage, club championship, the lot.
i personally love galway as a city and would love nothing more than an away trip there on a fine summers evening.
but seriously, does province hopping not prove that the provincial championship is past its sell by date?

jj72 (Kildare) - You are correct and it now appears that all the top GAA folk are interested in is the money. Galway should be allowed a home tie just as Carlow should be in their park - so what if it cannot hold 20 or 30K- just give the smaller (and all) counties an equal opportunity.
