Kilcoo

(Oldest Posts First)

I don't see too many Down posters on this forum and their own page isn't exactly hopping. . .

But what do people make of the situation Kilcoo are being put in by the Down county board (article on the main page)?

The county board have thrown them out of the league for not fulfilling a fixture arranged the same night as an under 21 game and in between 2 Ulster club games. They then arranged another u21 game for this Sunday - the SAME DAY as their Ulster semi final!

I would be 100% in favour of Croke Park getting involved in this one and bringing harsh punishments on the Down county board.

Kilcoo have upset the South Down mafia by dominating senior football for the last number of years. The South Down mafia are getting their own back now!

How dare they, the small upstarts!

county boards and especially their ccc's don't give a hoots about the welfare of players as long as they get fixtures played and if possible get fines revenue for dissent when clubs bite back. If anyone on the down ccc with half a braincell took a proper look at the schedule they would see kilcoo couldn't be in so many places at once. Would like to think that UC would back up kilcoo seeing as they are playing in their own flagship championship. Although this is a serious situation for the club, it is a spotlight on the stupidness of having to play county league finals in flippin November and highlights the disdain which is shown to clubs and players across the country. Players need a closed season to recover and spend time with loved ones. Even the overpaid prima donas of the soccer get a closed of season, every sport across the world has down time accept the gaa which purports to care about player welfare yet flog the life out of AMATEUR players for 12months of the year. The sooner the CPA gets up and going and get the backing of clubs to pull the pin on games until recognition is given to overhaul the fixtures problem once and for all the better. If clubs supported action then there could be no county teams so no income which would make croke park sit up and take notice and sort the problem once and for all instead of nodding and paying lip service to a problem that is getting seasonally worse.

Victims of their own success a wee bit. I support them getting some leeway with rescheduling the fixtures, but should this fail then I hope they focus on the Ulster club and go on to win it outright. Best football team in the county for years by a clear margin. Fair point that South Down clubs were helped in past campaigns, but it's an old problem that East Down are always treated less fairly.

It would remind you of how the hurling fraternity are treated too Bricktop.

Up the Magpies.

It makes me despair about the people who run our organisation. It is utterly disgraceful and every damn club in Down should support Kilcoo. Fair play to them for taking a stand.
It seems as somebody mentioned, they (CCC) are only interested in getting competitions finished and they couldent give a damn about player welfare. Hang your heads in shame boys, because ye aint no friend of any decent GAA person. Shameful !!!!

Considering Down were knocked out in the first round of the championship how the hell are they only playing their league final now?

maybe hq could give fixture planning lessons to county boards as a mandatory qualification needed because I know several counties including my own have had to deal with many of these ridiculous schedules for club teams. Most of the time they don't even want to hear how impossible the fixtures are on clubs and the Kilcoo situation sums it up perfectly. All about power and control, forget about providing a service for their clubs and county.
