Pundits, Brolly included, interrupting each other

(Oldest Posts First)

Did anyone not find watching the draw last night uncomfortable??

Like Joe has been on TV for decades now yet he still doesn't know when to shut his mouth.

He doesn't seem to be aware of the other presenters or pundits around him.

Also has his opinions around the game of football and how it should be played change from month to month.

Yeah he constantly interrupts. Dolan was too much of a gentleman to tell him to button it for a minute.

The problem with Brolly's analysis is that he makes it too personal. While others simply comment on how a player plays in the match Brolly is always talking about players mental state or their personal lives. He is essentially just a bully. The Hennelly article last weekend just shows the true character of the man. It was 8 days after the game so he had plenty of time to decide whether it was an acceptable piece. Did Robbie Hennelly mess up in the All Ireland final because of a tweet or an instagram post or is it more likely that he was thrown in at the deep end and possibly isn't good enough to handle that type of pressure. Probably the latter.

And lets be honest was Brolly really that good at football, he had one golden summer where he scored a few goals but other than that he was mediocre enough. I suppose he has got the All Ireland medal in the back pocket so he can say what he likes.

In fairness to Michael Lyster he cuts him off and doesn't suffer a lot of his waffle when he needs to move on.

Brolly is in it for Brolly.

He wants to get people talking - no publicity is bad publicity and all that.

To be fair to the man, he's bloody effective!

I understand that people don't like him but I personally love him, it's a better Sunday game for me when Joe's on. As for the "mediocre footballer" post I'm sorry I know you don't like him but Joe was a great footballer up there with all the great corner forwards of the 90's he was far from "mediocre". If Mayo had Joe Brolly this year you's would of won the first day by 5 points.

Did ye hear him going on about Johnny Cooper drinking water while everybody else was drinking tea / coffee and eating biscuits?
Cringe-worthy stuff!

I'd like to see Lester tell him to stick to the issue every once in a while. the program was meant to be about next years draw and all Joe wants to talk about is defensive systems and the fun being taken out of the game. himself, O'Rourke and Spillane are obsessive on the topic and its pretty tiresome at this stage!

I don't particularly have a problem with Joe and he is sometimes entertaining but they way he conducts himself on live TV is embarrassing, especially for a man as educated as he is.

Like he seems to have no respect for whoever is sharing the TV slot with him.

Also he is becoming more and more of a hypocrite as the years go on. He will undermine and insult a team until he feels that they may have a chance of winning the All Ireland, then he turns into their biggest fan.

The way he did a complete u-turn for Mayo before and after the first All Ireland final was cringe worthy day. After they snatched a draw he was all over them.

Dead right!

None of them seem to be able to stay on topic; weather it be the championship draw, first round or All Ireland final, they constantly stray off topic to discuss their own personal agendas with the GAA.

Honestly it is about time that RTE caught themselves on and brought in some fresh blood for the Sunday Game.

Yeah. Lyster is the only one that shuts him up, also makes hoe look like a circus act .

I wish he'd do it to the rest of them as well.

I really like Dolan, I he gets more airtime. I literally did switch over at halftime in every Sunday game that he was on as I am fed up with him. The interruptions are so annoying. You can see him ready to interrupt stops himself for about a second then goes on ahead and interrupts then anyway.

Felt sorry for Dolan who couldn't speak for two seconds because when Brolly finished he'd just interrupt him again. Lyster had his work cut out last night!

The problem here is rte and not joe brolly as fad as im concerned . On newstalk for example brolly is given the time to elaborate on a point and the other guest gets their shot too. But rte has so many ad breaks , silly competitions ( eg is it the liam mccarthy or the mick mccarthy cup phone 1550 ....) and gimmicks to show off camera work and montages , that the time for talking properly is nil.

Brolly is box office.

Like or loathe him,he's an interesting character, has the smarts and is a passionate gael.I dunno but sometimes I think he is on the wind up but then when he puts his mind to it,he can be brilliant and compelling.tbf there is a lot of substance to the geezer.

A six point turn about due to Brolly .. I dunno about that as i cant recall him ever scoring 6 points in Croke Park.
Yes he scored a winning goal in 1998 Ulster final and a point v Dublin in the '93 semi when on a one to one with the keeper.
Not sure how effective a 90s Brolly would be against Philly & Co
