Some good match ups in draw for 2017

(Oldest Posts First)

Now that was successful draw that slot of matches have came out , I'm very excited for the Munster hurling and Ulster football , the rest have ended up getting very good match ups . Connacht looks tough . Leinster seems better than last year , Munster is much stronger with Clare and Tipperary getting better . Leinster hurling will show better matches than the past year . I see a stronger 2017 . Very successful draw . I'm happy with it. Can't wait.

You're obviously happy with it from a point of watching as a neutral then. We will get our annual beating at the hands of Tyrone, then labour through one or two ( if we get a lucky 1st round draw ) before concentrating on the club season again.

Will that Derry/Tyrone game be in Omagh this year?

Just the luck of the draw in Ulster. Tyrone have now had away draws in the first round of the Ulster Championship since 2012 against Armagh, Donegal (2) Monaghan and Derry (2). Down got their first home draw in a long long time last night versus Armagh.

The pundits last night were talking about interesting draws, and that only really Ulster caught the eye.

Given the standard of those counties, wasn't that always going to be the case, or is it possible to have a boring draw?

Could anyone mock up a boring Ulster draw, with no tradition, rivalry or contest?

It'd be tough - you either get a big opening round game or you get a cracking semi final barring a huge upset.

Hopefully Wexford beat Offaly and we have an away game down in Wexford to head too

Sure most of us Dubs have holiday homes in Wexford

Save a fortune on accommodation

Party back in mine lads!

Big derby. Tough one to call a winner, I hope you both have better seasons next year.

The best I could come up with.

PR Derry v Monaghan
QF Derry V Armagh
QF Donegal V Antrim
QF Fermanagh V Down
QF Tyrone v Cavan

Dont think Tyrone and Cavan have met in a first round match for over 30 years.

Well I got to say that above all provincial match ups, ulster is the less appealing than any to me, yes some big games but what about the standard of football? Maybe I'm a dinosaur and I accept that, but for me, Meath v Louth should it happen, Kildare v Laois (once Kildare actually try to play football in its traditional sense) Tipp v cork, mayo v Galway all great games in the making should they happen, those are the ones that ignite the interest for me. Also its worth noting that no ulster county made the last 4 this year, which may be a sign that other provinces may have came to terms with the styles of play (Down excluded)

There's a "Small" question of Wexford having to play Carlow first, (Offaly ??) before there's any talk of a Dublin / Wexford game. Congrats on your All Ireland win.

Bit of a dinosaur myself but good luck with them games I would give you Mayo v Galway but I stick with Down v Armagh, Derry v Tyrone and Cavan v the winners of the hard fought Fermanagh V Monaghan game.

Not saying the not interesting match ups in ulster. but there is huge rivalry (no doubt everywhere) but Meath v Louth and Kildare v Laois are remarkable contests , Kildare hate Laois and vice versa, same for Louth v Meath. Even though I personally would put Westmeath as a higher. Level of dislike, but that's just me

Now all the matches that will make me excited to see are.
Tyrone vs Derry
Down vs Armagh
Fermanagh vs Monaghan
Cavan vs Mon/Ferm
Louth vs Meath
Kildare vs Laios
Galway vs Mayo
Tipperary vs Cork
Clare vs Kerry
Hurling :
Cork vs Tipperary
Waterford vs Tipp/Cork
Limerick vs Clare
Galway vs Dublin
Wexford vs QF W
Offaly vs OF W
Galway / Dublin vs Offaly / QF W
Killkenny vs Wex/QF W

It will be a very interesting championship . I see no reason there will be a very good amount of shocks . There are still a couple of matches that could have been on the list . And I know I put a few pre determined ones down . Donegal vs Antrim could be better than expected . But we all have to wait till may for it to get starting again . The league will be vital to watch this year , the league will be very interesting and important .
