'Banty' the manager.

I know he has had Monaghan and Meath jobs a few years but I never seen what the attraction was.Perhaps those counties have a better take on what he brings to the job.

He played Conor McManus at wing half back.

May god have mercy on us all! :(

If anyone is wondering what the noise is, it's Monaghan and Meath people wetting themselves with laughter.

Backwards step for Cavan I think which is a shame as they have so much potential!

Lol , seems like backwards step alright after all the good work done by Hyland.
I'm sure he is passionate about his football but don't think he has what it takes at top level.

bad move for cavan i feel, alot will depend on who he brings with him , he'll put a very proffessional setup in place but tactically no good, its good news for monaghan folk!!

Cavan have made great progress in recent years. Don't know much about the managers available to them but surely someone involved with the underage successes they have had would have been more suitable. Maybe Banty will surprise everybody but I very much doubt it. As an outside manager I feel he wasn't really given much time in meath. Relegated in the first year and he was gone. Cavan will give him longer I'm sure but if it doesn't work out it will could set cavan well back

He's not getting the job. Was interviewed all right. Mattie McGlennen the Scotstown manager will get it.

It would be good to see Banty back as he is front row viewing - passionate and to the point. However I would tend to agree McGleenan would be a good choice.

Mattie has done good work at club level and would have been a good choice. Sometimes it is better to look beyond the big name look at the good work Tyrone man Peter Donnelly done at Cavan.

Does Winning a couple of county titles in monaghan make him a good choice. Surely there would be someone as good in Cavan.

Surprised to hear Cavan are going with Banty he did great work with us but always a feeling he didn't use the players as well as he could. Squad he had was arguably stronger than what Malachy has had to work with but under achieved in the years after 07. wouldnt judge him om Meath job as they have been goign downhill for a few years now. Hyland seems to have done the laying the groundwork and think Cavan probably need a better tactical manager more versed in modern football to bring them to an Ulster title as they have the talent pool to do it and despite media hype don't think province is that strong at the minute. impressed with MattieMcGleenon and as a Monaghan man am glad he ain't going to Cavan.

It was widely reported that this was a 'done deal' but I dont think that is actually the case. I would be expecting an announcement imminently. It seems that McGlennon is still very much in the running and may well have got his nose over the line. I remember when we hired Martin McHugh and he was obscure in terms of senior management and if McGleenon could replicate that sort of regime then we are in business. Not many that I have spoken to would be happy with Banty and the county board must be aware of that too. These are a good generation of players but we need the right leadership in place. I was at the county final yesterday and saw Banty in the stand with a pen and paper. Actually saw him at a Cavan league game too so that may not mean much.

I would have hoped for bigger names in the final shortlist for a division 1 team but it is what it is I guess.

If he gets the job, I think Banty would certainly get the Cavan players fired up....but I don't think that was ever a problem under Hyland.
The question is whether or not he is tactically astute enough....
He would need a good number 2 and backroom team in place, as he can be prone to strange decisions....remember he bizarrely played Darren Hughes as goalkeeper in an Ulster Championship match.....

Not sure he's the man for the job ! he under achieved with a very talented Monaghan team playing many players out of position. He had far more talent at his disposal then Malachy O'Rourke has.
We need someone with a tactical brain to continue the hard work over the past few years. We are the brink of progressing or going backwards.
I think Banty would be a backward step.
Mc Gleenan has achieved a lot with Scotstown and while he has no inter county experience, neither had Jim Mc Guinness when he took the reigns in Donegal.
