North Dublin v South Dublin- just asking

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

First, this is not another thread proposing to split the all conquering Dubs.
But, given that we have nothing left to talk about except the depth of the current champions' panel, how would the 2 teams line up if the river split the county in 2? Would they each make be in top 5 nationally?

The Leinster final that year would be North v South Dublin

Not really a runner as some clubs are "west Dublin" and as such are neither north or south

You can't be west or east of the Liffey Liam!

The Liffey rises in the Wicklow mountains and flows in an arc into Kildare and back into Dublin. Therefore South Dublin is south, east and north of the Liffey.

Would you consider Blanch north or South Breff?

Is Blanch not quite straightforwardly North.

I'd say right now both would be division 1 were they to split.

Blanch is west
If push came to shove, they would be northsiders alright, but in reality they are "west dublin"
In the eyes of many, Clondalkin and Ballyfermot would also be "west Dublin" while undoubtedly being on the "southside" if you follow?

Yes its west but that doesn't stop it also being north and same for those being west and also being south.

ya but Ormond, when we speak of "northsiders" and "Southsiders", Blanch, Lucan, Skerries, Swords etc wouldnt really fall into either category. I mean dont get me wrong they are by definition, one or the other as in north or south of the river , but REAL northsiders would the like of Raheny, Marino, Whitehall. Real southside would be your Liberties, Rialto, Crumlin, me own area Walkinstown, Drimnagh.

Of course there is always your more......affluent places on both sides, like Blackrock, Foxrock on one side and D4 in general on the southside, but to be honest, a Walkinstown Gael has far more in common with a Raheny Gael than he has in common with a Donnybrook fella

If you get me !!

This whole Dubs geography is very strange, and anyways, what if you were raised in say, Ballinteer, play for St Johns, but work and live in say Phibsboro....??

like, Donegal and Kerry are on the west coast, but when we speak of "westerners" usually it infers the coastal counties of Connacht.....am i wrong?

West Dublin exists just for those who don't like the association with Northsiders or Southsiders. That's my take and that's all that matters!

Blanch is North every day of the week. At a push County Dublin if you wanna make that distinction.

West usually refers to all of Connacht and excluding the other counties on the Western seaboard.

The Split is more like Fingal, North City, Southside, and those oddballs out in the West.
