TV Camera work - much room for improvement..

(Oldest Posts First)

It's something not often brought up but TV is overdoing the replays to the point that they are missing important aspects of the game. Particularly the kick outs. A great part of the game but regularly missed as they show a replay or ,even worse, the pensive facial expressions of the managers on the side-line.

Saw this a lot during the Ladies final out. Example. Dublin had a side line ball but camera shot to show a view of the bench. When it came back to the game, Cork were tearing down on the Dublin goal. No idea what happened other than Cork obviously overturned the ball -most of us would prefer to see a good/critical tackle over a Manager having a sip of water. Worse was the men's AI final. Dublin's first goal stemmed from Cluxton's kick out but all we got to see on TV was ,again, Dublin running in on goal. Only the HT analysis showed the goal in full.

Should be a straight forward direction to the controllers and cameramen. No replays when a kick out is to be taken. Game moves too fast and anything can happen in a split second. Plenty of stoppages to allow for replays and the obligatory shot of someone recognising themselves on the big screen.

Other than that, Up the Dubs.

Noticed this too during the All Ireland Final. Especially with kick outs being so pivotal now, by the time RTE got back to the action the ball had already been overturned.

Maybe they could have a small screen in the corner showing the kickout while they are showing the replay, so we can see what's going on.

Yeah, I would say on an average game, they miss live coverage of about 6 kick outs. Too high a chance of missing something significant to the game or indeed the viewer may miss a spectacular fielding of a ball which fans love to see.

Could be worse. Least they don't break to a commercial during the actual game. Not yet , anyway :).

To avoid Joe Brolly I have watched most recent matchs on Sky and they have different camera Angles far superior to RTE if you have access to that...

Have only seeing a couple of matches on Sky but mostly record the games on RTE and watch 'em back.

TG4 outdo RTE for camera angles. They have this camera showing the Ref's view. Mostly you get to see his view of the grass or player's boots :).

I think TG4's camera work is far superior to RTE at this moment from real fans point of view, they don't have the fancy analysis that sky have but they give you the best angles to watch the game develop, for example the camera angle for kick-outs, behind the goals is great as it allows you to see the space available to the keeper and also all the movement off the ball.
