The myth of a hard run up to All_ireland.

(Oldest Posts First)

The notion that Mayo would be 'undercooked' after defeating Tipp and Dublin battle hardened after the epic win over Kerry has been shown to be a myth. In fact, from Dublin's perspective perhaps the win over Kerry was seen as the bigger peak to climb and that Mayo would not be as challenging. The bookies odds for the two fixtures seemed to corroborate that. Perhaps the respective run-ups to the Final for both teams set the Dubs up for a fall. I don't want to use that detestable cliche "under the radar' but Mayo had developed a nice rhythm of winning and quietly timed their ultimate effort almost to perfection.
But I think the advantage is now with Dublin. Everybody expected that Mayo would bring something special to the final and in a sense their cover has been blown. It's one thing 'expecting' something : but now Dublin knows just what Mayo are capable of: we have experienced and survived that awesome intensity that they brought into that first game.. From a Dublin perspective, Mayo now represents the ultimate challenge: the mindset has now been corrected and any complacency will have been flushed out of the system. I think Dublin management will learn more from the first game and the players will know how close they came to winning and losing their shot at back to back All-Irelands.
Dublin can't expect the outrageous good fortune they had 2 weeks ago. On the law of averages and lucky breaks to be had will go the other way.
But I think Dublin will be a different beast on Saturday evening. It'll be close.

Good to hear but doesn't the protocol regarding concussion stipulate a 3 week lay off?
