Bus Strike planned for October 1st.

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

The NBRU have confirmed their strike action for October 1st which will impact some for the replay. Hopefully won't hit any supporters as a 5 o'clock kickoff will mean plenty of time for people to get there. In the case of the dispute not being resolved by then maybe some private bus operators could run some park'n'ride alternative to getting to and from Croke Park.

I stopped reading at "kickoff". For this reason i'll be supporting Dublin on October 1st.

These unions are losing the run of themselves altogether if you ask me. If I was to walk into my boss demanding a 15% pay increase I'd be on my way, After my boss had finished laughing of course.

Oh yeah..writing "kick off" instead of "throw in" is a really good reason to feel offended! Come on Mayo!
Regarding the strike, it makes no difference. Provincial buses, the trains and Luas are still running so there's still good access to the city centre and to Croke Park

You could join/set up a union and make a case for yourself getting what you think you deserve or just keep whining like a baby about other industries that do :)

What is the reason that the game is fixed for Saturday anyway? Is something on in Croker the following day?

Not sure but it'll make for a great buzz for the game under lights and the night out in town and more people should stay that night because they'll be off Sunday. Will be great for taxi drivers, no Nitelinks.

The nature of the organisation I work for precludes us from setting up/joining a union.
It's apparent what your position is Breffni, but would you not agree that some unions extract the urine?

It's probably fixed for Saturday because Saturday makes more sense than Sunday. Time to ditch the tradition methinks!

Did you sign up to those terms and conditions under duress? If not there isn't much point in complaining about your lot. Get yourself to publicjobs.ie if you think it's a better number than your own.

I don't think certain unions extract the urine no. This how industrial action works. It's bargaining/haggling. You can't start off under-selling yourself.

Not often. Fair play to the busdrivers and Luas people before that. Their money and many many others were cut to keep bankers and developers in fancy cars rather than pay their debts.

It annoys me to hear middle class, college-educated snobs texting radio stations whinging about so-called unskilled busdrivers like they're experts in driving a bus. Watching the traffic, fare dodgers, amateur tourguide, getting abused by some drunk, stoned passengers. Just because busdrivers get more money than them because they're smart enough to work very hard for good money. There's a difference between being educated and being smart. The middle class whinger and the busdriver both got shafted during the bust. But the busdriver is saying enough is enough and how well their deal goes can affect how future industrial disputes go.

Cavanman47, it hardly makes sense when there is a bus strike on. For me, the Sunday makes perfect sense. Saturday games just dont have the same razzamatazz as a Sunday afternoon in Croker.

Where do newly qualified guards and nurses fit in your paradigm?
I would argue that they have to deal with a lot more than your average bus driver.

They are in their own unrelated industrial disputes.
