As reported in H.S., Eamon Fitzmaurice in an interview with RnaG states that the Ref in the semi-final made a few mistakes, fair enough, a lot of commentators stated the same, but then Eamon goes on to say "We should have won the game anyhow". I just wonder was something lost in translation from the interview (presumably "as gaeilge") or was Fitzmaurice at the same game as the rest of us. sligo joe (Dublin) - Posts: 674 - 08/09/2016 11:55:20 1911741 Link 0 |
He is entitled to his opinion. Maybe he genuinely does feel they should have won. But they didn't, So move on. waynoI (Dublin) - Posts: 13650 - 08/09/2016 12:11:18 1911750 Link 0 |

All he said in the interview was that in the last 10 minutes Kerry had a number of scorable chances that they didn't take and regardless of the referee giving a few decisions against them, it shouldn't have mattered. If they had taken those chances they would have probably won the game. He is only saying what I think everyone else who watched the game has said in the aftermath. Kerry left 3-4 points behind them in those closing minutes. TheHermit (Kerry) - Posts: 6354 - 08/09/2016 12:18:40 1911760 Link 0 |
As you say - he is entitled to his opinion.

he also mentioned that the Dubs were the best team. 2 conflicting lines. But who cares anyway, the Dubs won. the Dubs have the best team in the country at the moment but the Dubs also have the best morons too for jumping on every single word/line in every single interview without knowing the exact question asked or how it was really answered. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz woops (Kerry) - Posts: 2073 - 08/09/2016 12:22:08 1911765 Link 1 |
Eamon Fitzmaurice did say during the interview that "Dublin were the better team", a statement which is in conflict with Kerry should have won. fainleog (Limerick) - Posts: 598 - 08/09/2016 12:37:35 1911772 Link 0 |
Probably thought that Gooch's point attempt was a turning point. Maybe thinks they would have kicked - on had that gone over? Brolly (Monaghan) - Posts: 4472 - 08/09/2016 13:05:48 1911796 Link 0 |

Dublin had better possession, found it easier going forward and creating more opportunities. Kerry engineered periods of dominance but faded at the end (wasting three clear opportunities). If Kerry had been more clinical a draw would have been a fair result. If Kerry had been more focused and ruthless, a win wasn't out of the question. How could anyone take issue with that sort of assessment?

No it isn't. I'm 50 this year. In my lifetime, we have been the better team on some days but lost (Offaly in 82). The opposite is also true... but I'll hold my counsel on that, lest I restart the Civil War in Kerry.

Good stuff, hopefully he thinks that this years panel are good enough and doesn't blood any of the really talented youth coming through for the Kingdom. TheUsername (Dublin) - Posts: 4445 - 08/09/2016 14:24:33 1911862 Link 0 |
Yup, the best team doesn't always win. cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5010 - 08/09/2016 14:31:15 1911867 Link 0 |
Have to agree. Game over, Dublin won, and are in the All Ireland Final.

How much change is needed? The panel that he has are definitely good enough to remain in Division 1 and possibly qualify for the knockout stages. The panel that he has will stroll to Munster success. They are also good enough to get a championship victory against the likes of Donegal, Mayo and Tyrone. They also came close to beating Dublin. They lost by two points!! There is an element of change in all panels. Some players will retire and need replacing. Apart from that, not much surgery is needed. bennybunny (Cork) - Posts: 3917 - 08/09/2016 15:06:09 1911890 Link 0 |
who cares what he says thankfully we have another two years to beat him. He will go down in record as the most consequative losses to any dublin team in history, When im older and wiser ill remember this period with a smile. heresam (Dublin) - Posts: 156 - 08/09/2016 15:20:27 1911897 Link 0 |
Biggest regret I've heard from Kerry fans is that they didn't turn the screw on Cluxton 5 minutes early in the first half. His collapse left Dublin badly exposed for that period. BlastCalyle (Mayo) - Posts: 206 - 08/09/2016 15:35:36 1911907 Link 0 |
Look it's all ifs, buts and maybe at this stage. Anyone can say whatever they like and it doesn't matter a jot. Dubh_linn (Dublin) - Posts: 2312 - 08/09/2016 15:42:54 1911911 Link 0 |
Agree completely. This is the 2nd or 3rd thread set up by a Dublin supporter trying to make out that Kerry haven't accepted their defeat and are bad losers. It's getting really boring!!
