The worst GAA nicknames

Are there any good GAA nicknames out there? The Tyrone and Kerry teams of the 2000s battled it out for crap nicknames as much as they did on the field.

Star came in and made the difference for Kerry imho.

Henry Shefflin: "The King"

Always thought it was a good nickname, and very apt of course.

Some of my ex team mates were known as the knife, the terminator, the r**ist, mad dog and the b**stard. We were generally considered tough but fair ;)

When he first came on the senior scene in 1978 Eoin Liston was known as The Brown Bomber. Later it was fortunately shortened to The Bomber".

Star is the worst nickname I've ever heard.

I do well not to smash my TV every time Joe Brolly uses it.

Just thinking of our '89 team Whammo and some of the nicknames:

Bubbles (Patterson)
Bear (Donnelly)
Cloot (McFetridge)
Woody (McKinley)
Hippy (Donnelly)
Humpy (McKillen)
Sambo (McNaughton)
Beaver (MCarry)

Probably forgetting a few too!

I'm far from impartial but I think most of those are crackers.

Who calls him that??

I've only ever heard him referred to as "big Seamie" O'Neill.

lol - I don't know it but as I was putting them up yesterday I did wonder where the origins lay. GIven that there is no evidence to suggest we ever had the animal here it does send the mind down another road but maybe some of my fellow Countymen can give the answer.

And just thinking more about the '89 team and there also was Pappy O'Kane and Dew McMullan (was Mushy McMullan in the panel that year?). In fact, I wonder did any player not have a nickname on that team?

From my own days playing I remember some of the nicknames of the players you would have been up against (underage and adult):
Wiggsy
Scaldy
Ghosty
Nipper
Satan
Skinny
Lanky
Skunk
Bog Rat

And some others which wouldn't pass the moderation....
