When have the raging hot favourites not gone on to win the final.
Give the Mayo lads a bit of bloody hope.
Donegal 92 Galway 98 Galway 2001 Armagh 2002 Tyrone 2008 Kerry 2009 (Cork were favourites going into that final, Kerry were not on form, the talk being that no one could match their athleticism) Dublin 2011 Down 91?
Dublin 95, Cork 2010 and Dublin 2011 were teams whose winning mentalities were questioned, until they won of course.
This final is no foregone conclusion!

Not a final but our win over Dublin in 2014 was a big upset of the bookies odds, surprised a lot of our own fans too I suppose, I think that result shocked Dublin and they are a tougher team since, I can't see them getting carried away by any hype, anyway they have only to look back to the games with Mayo last year to realise they need to be at full tilt to win this. Mayo can do the same, look back at last year and they can see how they almost won, so it should be a good final, but I think if Dublin play their best no one can touch them at the minute, given that and Mayo's record in finals I can only see one winner. I'm sure lots of people said they could only see one winner before our semi final with Dublin in 2014 too though, so there is always a chance.

At the weekend they showed how much they'd improved from 2014. When Donegal had a lead on them Dublin forced the game too early, played for goals to get themselves back into it.
Against Kerry they backed themselves and just kept the points ticking over.
As you say Dublin are favourites but there have been many occasions when games haven't gone to plan. I'd rate Mayo's defence as better than Kerry's. If they managed to build up a lead, there's more chance they could hold onto it.

Kildare were strong enough favourites in 1998 as far as I can remember. Luckily enough Ja Fallon et al didnt read the script.

If anyone needs reminding of why you should never write off a Mayo team against Dublin here is some commentary from the good old lads at RTE from back in the year of 2006. Brolly and O 'Rourke said Mayo were just there to show up and make up the numbers basically.

Few remain today from them two teams but you get the point, they play best when they pressure is off them .

Roll on 18th" Oooh. Dont know about the defence point you made. Its looked suspect alot this year. Tyrone could have scored about 1-4 against Mayo in the last 5 minutes of their quarter final victory. I fancy the dubs to score a few goals in the final tbh.

The All-Ireland Champions from 2012 beating the All-Ireland Champions from 2013 in the 2014 Championship should not have been as big a shock as it was perceived to be after the game in my opinion.
I know the prevailing wisdom is that it was a massive shock but for me it wasn't.
Don't get me wrong I was confident that Dublin could win that day but that Donegal team was hardly a bunch of also rans.
In GAA punditry there is a tendency to massively over hype whoever the current Champions are imo and it was very evident that year.

I know Mayo haven't won the All Ireland but they've been close 4 years in a row.
If they win it would be shock but I don't believe it'd be a colossal shock as some on here or in the media would have you believe.

Mayo winning wouldn't be the shock at all as they should have beaten a better Dublin team last year.
But if it happens it'll be described as such because that's the way of it in the GAA for some reason.
