I think Colm Boyle or Kevin Mcmanamon are one good performance away from winning Football POTY 2016 jimbodub (Dublin) - Posts: 20600 - 30/08/2016 16:52:45 1908231 Link 0 |

Kev Mac, Diarmud Connolly, Jonny Cooper, Brian Fenton, Dean Rock , James McCarthy, Philly McMahon and Ciaran Kilkenny if Dublin win and whoever gets motm in the final will win poty clondalkindub (Dublin) - Posts: 9926 - 30/08/2016 17:27:33 1908253 Link 0 |
Agree They are the top 2 I also think a big final from Diarmuid Connolly or Lee Keegan could bring them into it People saying Aidan O'Shea are talking out their hoops! Liamwalkinstown (Dublin) - Posts: 8166 - 30/08/2016 17:35:39 1908258 Link 1 |

Keegan and Fenton are two other major contenders. Whammo86 (Antrim) - Posts: 4217 - 30/08/2016 17:49:57 1908268 Link 0 |
I think both Johnny Cooper and Ciaran Kilkenny have been immense this year. I haven't seen enough of Mayo to make a call on them. Boyle is a smashing player and Keegan is always there or thereabouts. A lot was made of D O'Connor coming into this year but the bits that I have seen he didn't seem to figure too much.

Disagree, for me Connolly is the outstanding player this year & will be in contention if he behaves in the all Ireland final, he's a shoe in, is my honest opinion. cilles man (Meath) - Posts: 142 - 30/08/2016 17:54:47 1908272 Link 0 |
Would love to see McManamon get it. Such a hard worker and honest player (maybe not gifted with as many natural skills as Brogan or Connelly) - epitomises everything that our young GAA people should be striving towards. Brolly (Monaghan) - Posts: 4472 - 30/08/2016 17:56:06 1908273 Link 4 |
Probably the most naturally gifted footballer in the country but can be inconsistent. You only have to look at Sunday. Three unbelievable points, 2 off the right, 1 off the left but two other shocking attempts and a dradful crossfield daisy cutter. Don't get me wrong, he is a genius but for me Johnny or Ciaran have been more consistent. Connolly should get an all-star though.

Like the all stars the POTY is decided from the quater finals onwards and will come from the winner. Kevin MacMenamin is in pole position for the Dubs with Aidan o'Shea or Andy Moran for Mayo. The likes if Ciaran Kilkenny, Diarmuid Connolly, Johnny Cooper, Colm Boyle and Lee Keegan will need to get man of the match in the final to win it. I'm sure the Mayo folk will admit they haven't really had a player who's been excellent all summer. Keegan was excellent against Tyrone but didn't match that performance against Tipp and didn't really excel in the other games. AOS has had 2 good games against Tyrone & Tipp but was relatively quiet in the previous games. Boyle was Mayo's best player in earlier games but has been quiet since. If the final doesn't go well for Mayo they could receive a record low number of All Stars for a team who reached the final. TheWestIsAwake (UK) - Posts: 529 - 30/08/2016 18:48:37 1908298 Link 0 |
Unless Dublin lose and he has a howler, Kevin McMenamin will get it. A leader, works hard, and a great footballer to boot. Has been my favourite Dublin player for a while now. If Mayo win, I could see them giving it to Andy Moran. Boyle is a leader and a ferocious competitor but Moran has rolled back the years this year and his movement is exceptional. He has added something new to Mayo's attack and is a highly inspirational player for them. ZeitChrist (UK) - Posts: 154 - 30/08/2016 18:52:28 1908300 Link 0 |
Ciaran Kilkenny at this stage for me. Dubh_linn (Dublin) - Posts: 2312 - 30/08/2016 18:53:15 1908301 Link 0 |
Mcmenimin or Kilkenny are the best players this year, although Kilkenny was quiet on Sunday. If Connolly kicks a few nice scores in the final he will get it but the other two are ahead for me. GeniusGerry (Kerry) - Posts: 2105 - 30/08/2016 19:12:27 1908312 Link 0 |
Lee Keegan Mayo and Michael Quinlivin Tipperary have been the outstanding players this year. However the award seems to be based more on team performance than individual performance, so it will go to a member of the winning team. It seems crazy that, out of all the players who take part in the c'ship, only those on the AI winning team are in with the opportunity to win it. neverright (Roscommon) - Posts: 1648 - 30/08/2016 20:03:18 1908338 Link 0 |
I'm suprised Andy Moran is out at 40/1 for it. from what I've seen of Mayo this year he seems to be their one consistent performer in the forwards. He may not win it but I would rate him well ahead of somr of those on much shorter odds. As has been said a big performande from soneone in the final could swing it for the eventual winner, as there has been no stand out favourite this year unlike the last couple of years. Stephen McDonnell won it when Armagh lost to Tyrone in 2003. Rare enough occurance though.

Brogan won in 2010 when Dublin didn't even make the final!
