Mayo Should Park The Bus V the Dubs

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

To stand any chance in this final Mayo need to be going extremely defensive against the dubs. Let the Dubs have there kickouts inside their 40 make sure they are going into heavy traffic from there. Also employ a double sweeper(one who has height) and 3 across the midfield (Diarmuid OConnor, SOS and Parsons)

Yerra yerra yerra has moved to Mayo. Good sign BTW!

Not sure about that. Donegal tried it and they were beaten comfortably in the end and they are masters at the defensive game. Don't think it would suit Mayo. Kerry showed today that Dublin can be got at by pushing up and competing at midfield and Mayo have a very strong middle third to compete with the Dubs. O Shea, Keegan, Vaughan, Boyle are all well able to win hard ball and feed Moran and O Connor inside.

That game plan takes a lot of discipline and months of prep, and I'm not even sure it suits Mayo's squad, especially given how many close in frees we've been giving away recently.

No such thing as a 'one idea' tactic anymore. Teams need to be fluid to adjust to situations as the game changes etc. Kerry today switched between sitting off and pushing up and that confusion paid dividends. Kerry were tactically spot on today but just ran out of legs and one strange call from the bench at the end.

Disagree.Cluxton and the Dublin full back line showed their vulnerability today.A third goal would have won the game for Kerry.Mayo's best chance is to pressurise Cluxton's kick outs and to put Aidan O'Shea on the edge of the square, kick in high ball and go for goals.Mayo need to attack Dublin, not to be overly defensive .It's their best chance of victory.

You are totally correct endgame. I'm guessing the original poster is only taking the p. Anyone who knows anything about football knows well that if you play defensive against them Dublin will win

Fingers crossed but the way Tipp opened them up at times, if they setup like that again it'll be a silly move

Mayo have a lot to get 100% right

Dublin have far more moving parts for Mayo to worry about, compared to the other way around

Dublin full backline played well today. 2 Cluxton made the goals.

Think if Mayo play long ball Dublin will be happy.

You need to run a us. Constantly. That's why it's so hard.

I don't think it's in our DNA to play ultra defensive and I agree there is no "one" way to approach a game. Mayo need to keep it tight but break at pace and push up on Cluxton at the right time. You can't push up every time and use up all your energy.

The only team that beat Dublin in champ in last 3 years was Donegal who hardly play open football??

Also just to note Dublin have scored 7 goals in last 3 champ matches against Mayo (2013 & 2015) so going open again wouldnt exactly be smart.
Also Mayo need to wake up to the amount of damage B Brogan tends to do to them

In my opinion Mayo are a much better side, when they hit top form, than this current Kerry side.

If Dublin repeat today's performance Mayo will beat them imo.

I know Jimbo man.

However,in my opinion, Mayo are capable of a better performance than Kerry put in today.

Take our the 2 goals they were gifted and I think you'll see what I mean.

Mayo a much more difficult proposition for the Dubs in my opinion.

Mayo should have beaten Dublin in last year's drawn semi final. If Mayo can reach that level again then the Dubs will have to be much better than they were today to beat Mayo.

Good try my friend, only problem is Mayo's top form days are well behind them. Can't understand Dublin being 3/10 for the final, I thought it would be more like 1/10. Cluxton, Brogan, Flynn, Connolly and Kilkenny having off days and they still beat Kerry. Rochfords team talk will be along the lines of 'keep it to ten or twelve points if ye can lads'. I'm putting on the communion money before Paddy Power cops on and shortens the odds. Come on ye boys.............

What I'm saying is all premised on Mayo reproducing their top form from the last few years.

I think they can but maybe you think they can't.

If Mayo can play to their best they are in with a great shout
