I know that minors dont always end up in seinors and if they do it doesnt mean that they will carry there succces , but the way they played today was very impresive against donegal , there are alot of very impresive players and different kinds aswell , so if development carries on as good as it is and a good few of them go in with seniors it will be a good mix of new and expeirience , and some senior debutans playing county for the first time is good , if they keep going the way they are going and Kevin Walsh gets them they could do some interesting things . I would like to see Paidraig Joyce and Micheal Meechan would be good forward coaches , i think Galway have a chance for a all ireland in the space of five years . Good Luck Galway ! oakleafersir (Derry) - Posts: 808 - 21/08/2016 18:34:16 1903997 Link 0 |
Long long was to go for minors. Galway won the minor in 2007 and we only really got one senior player from that team in Paul Conroy. I actually think this side is better than the 2007 side and they may not even win the final in a few weeks but I think we'll get more than one senior from this team. Really cannot tell. How many transition will be interesting. If Evan Murphy our no.11 who is a class act was from largely football counties like Kerry and Mayo he would be wrapped up in cotton wool. We don't have that luxury really and I believe soccer is eyeing him up through Galway Utd. If it was not soccer it would be hurling like in the Daithi Burke case who was instrumental in defence for Corofin when they won the club all ireland last year but now is wholly committed to hurling in terms of inter county. If we get two or three from this talented minor squad in a couple of yrs time to add to the fairly thin albeit talented panel KW is building we should make more inroads at senior inter county. kiloughter (Galway) - Posts: 1941 - 21/08/2016 19:32:51 1904059 Link 0 |
As a Derry man you should know as well as anyone that Minor success doesn't necessarily lead to senior success. Whammo86 (Antrim) - Posts: 4172 - 21/08/2016 19:47:02 1904075 Link 1 |
Could well happen, better chance of Sam going to Galway than Mayo anyway in our lifetime. TirChonaillabu2 (Donegal) - Posts: 344 - 21/08/2016 19:47:04 1904076 Link 2 |
Minors do not always transfer to seniors. ie roscommon in 2006. It depends on what sort of a balanced team is in situ and how the minors or younger players are staggered into the ranks of a senior team. Would like to think that Galway manage to do this successfully, it would depend on the older players and if they were willing to retire at the right time or to stay on for an extra season. I'd bet decent money that Mayo win an AI before Galway do.

Agree many many Roscommon fans have lived in that fantasy world that a minor success ( back in 2006) could open doors and lead to an All Ireland senior title. Ten years on and we are light years from winning an All Ireland. So don't rely on minors cause many of them fall off in time and don't even make it at senior. Laois were another good example of this.Had great minor teams but I think only landed one senior leinster title. Kerry and Dublin have only really put an emphasis into minor and under 21 in the last few years. moros (Roscommon) - Posts: 1075 - 21/08/2016 21:01:46 1904132 Link 0 |

Galway have won 4 U21 All Irelands since 2002 but in that time Galway seniors have won a game in Croke park. I don't see how one minor team that likely lose to Kerry will suddenly make Galway senior AI winners again. The_analyser (Roscommon) - Posts: 3722 - 21/08/2016 22:36:19 1904211 Link 1 |
Why the love of Galway ?I remember seeing a post of your here before earlier in the year about winning an all Ireland this year before they even bet Mayo I think. GameOfTyrones (Tyrone) - Posts: 469 - 22/08/2016 01:29:02 1904247 Link 0 |
2006 and Kerry beat Donegal in the minor semi final. Roscommon won the final that year. Roscommon have not won Sam as a result but players from the two beaten teams - Donegal/ Kerry have won All Ireland medals Leo mcLoone M Murphy P McGrath M McElhinney and a few of the subs in 2012 all won All Ireland medals Johnny Buckley was a minor that year for Kerry as was Tommy Walsh So you don't have to win minor to become senior All Ireland champions and wining it does give a county a massive boost. But very few minors make the senior grade SamOnErrigal (Donegal) - Posts: 1427 - 22/08/2016 21:27:31 1904649 Link 0 |
Galway senior team can't even win croke park that would help them in this quest at least to get to a semi final
