Mayo's All-Ireland challenge?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Mayo are currently second favourites with the bookies, 1/5 to beat Tipperary and 5/2 to win the All-Ireland.

Mayo have lost out to the eventual winners in each of the last 4 years. The bookies are expecting a repeat of the '13 final pairing. Are Mayo showing signs that they will win their first All-Ireland since '51?

You'll get good odds for that. I wouldn't write off Tipperary at all. They are there on merit despite what some might say. Someone was using the term make or break earlier. It possibly is for Mayo. 5th championship on the trot as serious All-Ireland contenders.

I agree they won't. I can only see a comfortable win for Mayo.

Not a hope in hell........the only real test tipperary had was against kerry and they were blown away. Expect Mayo to win pulling up.

Mayo learned from their defeat to Galway. Tipperary learned from their Munster final defeat as shown in their quarter-final win over Galway. Tipperary have earned the right to be in the semi-finals.

Neither Cork or Derry considered a challenge then? Galway were favourites too

Can't see Mayo disappearing myself. They've good young players on that team and have just won an U21 title. They won't be far away this year and will win one soon.

Be realistic Mayo won't lose this one and if they do they won't be doing it by 5.They have some serious momentum and Tipperary aren't the team to stop them

Agreed, Mayo for sam ?If not this year they will have one in three years its just a matter of time with the current talent they have and the U-21 from this year growing into the squad over the next few years.

Hard to believe it's 20 years since the Meath - Mayo replayed final.

I'm sorry as much as I would like to see this current bunch of Mayo players win an all Ireland - they simply won't Dubs or Kerry will do what they always do with Mayo - there's no getting away with it.

They have definately toughened up mentally and physically and have every chance this year. They got their tactics against Tyrone spot on and they bullied them off the pitch; they also have the forwards to beat any team. Dublin look a bit vulnerable while Kerry are very beatable so Mayo have nothing to fear BUT do they have the belief? That is their biggest obstacle.

The same people that are Tipping (see what I did there!) to beat Tipp by 10+ points are the same people who said we'd beat Westmeath by a similar margin. That didn't work out too well. Remember Fermanagh in 2004? Even after their great win over Armagh we were complacent in the first game against them and we nearly came unstuck. Tipperary are a better football team than Fermanagh in '04, no disrespect to what was a very good Fermanagh team then. Tipperary are a much better outfit than Westmeath built on great underage structures and success they've been Championship top 12 level the past 4 or 5 years. Beating Cork, Derry and Galway on their way to the semi-final they play fearless attacking football and are great to watch. A one point win, over a Tyrone team who were poor on the day, is not a sign that we are playing well though we improve every game. I think Tyrone were a bit overhyped based on their Ulster win. All of a sudden because many treat Tipp as also-rans, Tyrone were a great team and we're looking good because we beat such a team. We have to keep the heads and forget any complacency and go and prove we're the better team on the scoreboard. I expect us to win on Sunday but only by 2 or 3 points.
