Is this Mayo's year?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Is this Mayo year. Solid league campaign in which they discovered new players in Benny Harrison, Shane Nally, Paddy Durcan, Evan Regan, Stephen Coen and Conor Loftus. Throw the emergence of Diarmuid O'Connor has the half forward in the country and contender for player of year. He along with Regan has taken the responsibility off the shoulders of Cillian O'Connor. Then you have the experienced Andrew Moran, Keith Higgins and Aidan O'Shea provide leadership throughout the team. Throw in the best half back line in country in Keegan, Boyle and Durcan. Not a bad bench when can wheal on James Doherty, Alan Freeman, Donal Vaughan, Barry Moran and Chrissy Barrett chomping at the bit. This is a special group of players who have fought their corner on and off the pitch over last 12 months. They one of the best manager in country in Stephen Rochford. They didn't let their setback against Galway get them down. They have got the job done coming in through back door right in time for August. Their current run is similar to Galway 01,Tyrone 08, Kerry 09 who also lost in provincials who later went on to become All Ireland winners after a early setback. The time has come for this Mayo team to get their well deserved All Ireland. Is this Mayo year?

I think if Mayo can beat Tyrone on Saturday then I think they've got a great chance.

This is the team that arguably should have beaten Dublin in the drawn game last year while not fully behind their management team. They have their man at the helm now.

I wouldn't read too much into how they've gone thus far. They've been geared towards August/September since Rochford came in. Saturday is when we can fully judge where Mayo are at.

Rumours of Mayo's demise have been greatly exaggerated in my opinion. The winners on Saturday have a great shout of winning the All-Ireland as they should beat Tipperary easily enough in the semi-final.

It's definitely our year in 2016. I mean it this time.

Nope.

League form consisted of just about surviving in Division 1.
Unless they pull something out of the bag this weekend, it's another Johnny Logan championship for them (What's another year?).

In fairness, if they pull something out of the bag, then it gets interesting.

They probably have a better chance than usual because they're coming in under the radar.

I wouldn't rule Mayo out, In previous years they always had a ok league campaign followed by an impressive Provincial Championship.
This year they had a shakey enough league, shakey enough Provincial and have won games in the qualifiers without hitting top gear.

I would be wary of them, because I am aware of what they are capable of when they hit the high notes. It would be foolish to write Mayo off, as they more than capable of dispatching this Tyrone side and I don't think there is a particular team they can't beat.

So yeah why can't it be Mayo's year, they deserve an All Ireland

The 4 Regions are no great shakes at all. Having neglected our youth in 00's, we've been having a few years on the quiet side. Mayo have no excuses. '13 and '15 were bad losses for Mayo. Mayo have it all to prove. People for now rightly doubt their ability.

Sixty five years and counting. Why should this year be any different?

A thread like this gets rolled out nearly every year and as someone mentioned in another thread, a section of posters here and GAA fans in general just seem to wait every year for Mayo to exist and start the obituaries......what are the odds this thread will be used to beat the MAyo posters here IF/WHEN we exit the championship despite been started by a Cork poster.

He's not from Cork yt hes from Kerry. Its very obvious. So you can see what agenda he might have starting this thread.
