I'd like to know what people from outside the county looking in think about the Cavan manager's position with Terry Hyland now gone. cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5010 - 03/08/2016 09:11:19 1894476 Link 0 |
I think Terry Hyland has left Cavan in a great position. It is certainly a job which will attract plenty of managers. Division 1 football and a team capable of challenging in Ulster. Ok I still think ye are a bit behind Tyrone/Donegal but no reason why cant bridge that gap. It might be a job to interest someone like James Horan maybe? Maybe Malachy O Rourke might fancy new challenge!

Can't see it appealing to Horan somehow. He is living and working in Mayo and has a young family. Also has a couple of sidelines, radio, tv, newspapers etc. I'd say the expenses would need to be exceptional!

I would think cavan would be better going for an internal choice. I don't think the names mentioned here would take the job, if anything the job was probably more attractive 12 months ago you are going to be straight away into a battle to stay up and expectations would have risen in the county. ros1 (Roscommon) - Posts: 1211 - 04/08/2016 00:54:03 1895129 Link 0 |

I think the Cavan job would be a coveted one. dstuction (Donegal) - Posts: 1209 - 04/08/2016 08:56:16 1895156 Link 0 |

Call me old fashioned but given that it is still a parochial and amateur game then I think a teams best interests are always better served by a manager from their own county. Do you think for one minute that Kerry would ever be led to a Sam Maguire win with a Cork man at the helm! No they wouldn't and it's not that there isn't a capable Cork man out there that could do it,it's because the Kerry folk would never allow it because they see their own people as being those best placed to inspire and lead. I think the same is true of my own county and others too and I'd want very much for that out look to prevail for many years. seanie_boy (Tyrone) - Posts: 4235 - 05/08/2016 00:20:10 1895976 Link 0 |
Could be a job for John Evans or Jack O'Connor Mullerm (Cork) - Posts: 87 - 05/08/2016 00:56:34 1895988 Link 0 |
A fair point but I think we need a streetwise manager who has won Ulster or provincial titles before. We do have some young managers who may put their hand up and deserve an interview but we really need to be ruthless now. This purple patch we had with our younger players is becoming a thing of the past, meaning that we need a man who can give us every chance of an Ulster title. That won't be easy but it has to be our target as a minimum. I'm keen on O'Rourke but not sure if he will commit to Monaghan for another year. Otherwise I'd go after McHugh or Kernan! Id like to see Colin Kelly of Louth get the job. Met him a few times and he is a great football man and mind he just doesn't have the talent in Louth and a lot of the better players opted out for personal/work reasons. foxes_denn (Cavan) - Posts: 129 - 05/08/2016 09:12:58 1896021 Link 0 |
Any update on this - What does the Louth Men think of Kelly as potential heading for Cavan ? foxes_denn (Cavan) - Posts: 129 - 08/08/2016 08:41:09 1897799 Link 0 |
