Galway v Tipp Football

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Interested to get people's views on this one. Galway have been impressive on occasion but lack consistency over the course of the year. Tipp have huge momentum behind them and some very talented players. How do people think it will go?

If Galway can keep Quinlivan under wraps, they should win this one. They are very strong in midfield and Comer and Cummins are in great form.

I hope the lads are totally focused on this game and not thinking about a semi-final. This will be a tough game especially if some of Tipp's forwards get quality ball into them. I hope Kevin Walsh has that drilled into them.

We are conceding way too much and Danny Cummins is on fire. It looks ominous.

I'd love to see Tipp do it but fear they concede too much and a team with the attacking talent of Galway could put up a scoreline that they just can't overhaul.

But I'm looking forward to this game as it could be a good old fashioned game of simply trying to outscore your opponent.

In fact I'm looking forward to both games because the midfield battle in Kerry v Clare could be worth the admission price alone.

Difficult to call. Tipp have very good footballers with a strong midfield. However, at times, they can be very naive and a prone to lapses in concentration at the back. Galway defensive system will ask searching questions of the Tipp forwards. Normally I support my own province but I would love to see Tipp make the break through, particularly after so many of their players opting out.

I think most people that have posted have hit the nail on the head. I feel tipps style will suit Galway down the ground and I think croke park will suit Galway too. It's still a massive opportunity for tipp tho but I fear we will fall short by 5-6pts.
It's such a shame that oriordan, O'Brien and Kennedy aren't available. Probably 3 of the top 5 footballers in the county and all 3 would be good enough to make almost all panels and even starting teams in the country.
That's not excuses but it's a shame.
Galway is undoubtedly the best draw tipp could have got and fingers crossed the lads can make history on sunday

I have a sneaky feeling for Tipp..

They have good momentum now and it is possibly that Galway mentally are still celebration their first Connacht in 8 years..

I don't think Galway will play a sweeper I expect it to be man for man.
Open game I expect Galway to win quite easily been honest there the form team at the moment.
Big pitch won't suit Tipperary we have players who like to work the ball in small spaces our forwards though if on form will rack up a decent score but our defence must b prepared for a scoreline similar to what Kerry got in the Munster final.
It's great that we are here in a QF but all good things must come to an end.
I wish our lads luck and they deserve credit for getting this far.
Galway by 9.

Fear Galway could dominate at midfield. We've been scoring heavily but to limit Galway from scoring we'll need to limit the possession they get... Conroy and Flynn are a superior midfield to Acheson and Hannigan, though Acheson is a phenomenal player, could play anywhere really.

Good point Ziggy, hopefully plenty of porter was drank in Galway since the Roscommon win.

I really rate Walsh though and I think he will have Galway well prepared for this match. I think Galway will give us plenty of respect too

if we are going to win this we will have to be switched on for 70 mins. One of the earlier posts made the valid point that we leak soft scores through defensive lapses in concentration and Galway have the firepower to take full advantage.

Fingers crossed it will be the open free flowing game we all think it's going to be.

Just How good are Galway? Beat an out if sorts Mayo and a hopelessly inept Roscommon team in the replay.

Kyne will get his biggest test yet with Quinlevan, this should be a great battle.
Tipp have some high class footballers like Acheson,Quinlevan and McDonald and they will be full of energy and fight.

Expect this to be the game of the weekend Galway may be too cute defensively for Tipp and I feel have a stronger midfield and in Comer,Walsh and Comer they have some serious class. Galway to win after a great battle and have a serious cut at the semi.

I see James Horan is backing Tipp to win on Sunday, nothing new as he backed Mayo and the Rossies as well.. In all fairness both teams are in bonus territory and it will be great to see them playing in Croker. From a Galway point of view, i fear that these Tipp forwards will cause us problems more than Mayo and Roscommon. Unlike those two they are well able to kick points off either foot from open play. Its a 50/50 game..

True but just remember this is foreign to most of these Galway players as it is to Tipp. Not sure many(if any) Galway players have played in a game like this in Croke Park?

Where did he back Tipp for this one Belclare? He has never had any time for this galway team, not that it will bother them one bit!

I actually think that win by Tipp in Derry cant be underestimated. That was one of the biggest wins outside of winning a Munster Final they will ever get.
I have a slight inkling of a Tipp win here.

Galway have plenty of experienced players who have played in big games in Croke Park with the likes of Paul Conroy, Gary Sice, Gareth Bradshaw, Gary O'Donnell, Danny Cummins, Finian Hanley. I think Galway will come through this, would love to see them go on and get back to All Ireland final

i am really looking forward to this . In hurling Tipp and Galway have served up some classics down the years, they seem to bring out the best in one another. The way both counties play football could result in the game of the year to date next Sunday.
Heres hoping.

Definitely a 50 50 game. Although hypothetical I would think Galway could do more damage down the road if it is Tyrone who awaits the winner. Call it traditional, lack of fear or whatever. On Sunday though both teams will let each other play to a degree which makes it pretty even.
