Division 1 Football - who will be relegated?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Great result for Roscommon today and for Mayo as we'll probably now be in a relegation battle with Kerry. I saw enough improvement in Mayo against Dublin to think we'll be alright and we're definitely stronger than Down and Kerry.

I think Kerry and Down will be relegated from Div 1.

Still think the two teams that came up will go back down.

Think you're right JamesH

You'll have a lot of talent available again against Donegal

Keegan, Higgins to name just two

Important game that now against a strong looking Donegal side away from home

Lose that and it'll be hairy

After the first round of games I thought Roscommon were in big trouble but they've given themselves a chance with a great win down in Killarney.

Down are struggling at this level and I can't see them picking up the wins to stay up. They'll almost certainly be relegated. After that the Rossies probably still favourites to join them but not as clear cut as thought before.

Both Mayo and Kerry being winless is a concern but both counties have the quality in their ranks to get the required wins. Although I think they play each other next so the loser of that game will be in trouble.

Unfortunately for Down, I think they are dead certs for the drop. Monaghan and ourselves got the results we needed to stay up. Roscommon will have another few massive performances and could also stay up. It will go down to the last day and depend on results around the country, and points differential. For that reason, I think that it will be between kerry and mayo the next day out who is in the fight for survival on the last day. If roscommon beat mayo, then they could be going down.

Still wide open for the second relegation spot. I think Down are going but to be joined by one of Kerry, Mayo or Rossies.
You assume Mayo and Kerry will improve due to the calibre of player to return so they should be OK.
You just feel with the Rossies they will have to be going full pelt every game to get results and that is not very sustainable.

Kerry and Mayo will probably both scrape to 4 or 5 points.
If Roscommon can get another win under their belts then it will be tight between the 3 of them.
I'm going to call it as Down and whoever looses between Mayo and Roscommon

Down play kerry at home next up and loser you would think our certs for the drop, with only the dubs at home also for down very hard to see them staying up, think roscommon will join them.

3 wins would see you safe and frankly I don't see Kerry , Down or Mayo winning 3 games. Obviously all have to play each other yet but I'd say Down would beat Kerry as they seem to have their number in the past 60 odd years!!!I'd fancy Mayo to beat Kerry and Mayo to beat Down.

So after all that rant I'd reckon Kerry & Down for the drop. Roscommon and Mayo to stay up by the skin of their teeth.

Unfortunately for Down I see only relegation now. I think there will be as many as 4 teams on 6 points come the end of the league, so that would mean scoring difference would be the differential rather than head to head results. If that is the case, I see Mayo and Kerry being a vital game for either team, as Mayo have to play ross, who would love nothing better than sending them down to division 1. Neither Monaghan nor ourselves are home and hosed yet. I think either team could end up in difficulty as there are some stinkers of fixtures ahead. Cork should be grand, they fielded a second string team yesterday. The dubs will canter as per usual.

Prediction. Down to be relegated. Joined by either Roscommon or Mayo.

Has anyone gone down in recent past on 6 points
I think I remember a team staying up recently on 4 points.

Was thinking before the league started that having Dublin as one of your home games was going to put those teams at a disadvantage. They seem to be intent on winning "away from Croke park" (Mayo, Down and Roscommon)
Mayo would need to get their act together during the break as they have to go to Donegal next (THE form team), they then go to Clones to play ourselves, who will probably be looking to bounce back from a gallant loss away to Dublin. I think the winner of the Roscommon/Mayo game will keep one up and relegate the other.
Down are in trouble and have to win their next 2 matches, simple as. but I think they will unfortunately go down.
Donegal and Kerry should be OK, but if ever there was an opportunity to relegate the Kingdom and knock them off their perch it's now
As for ourselves - well we have the distinct advantage of having Donegal in Clones to fall back on in the last game.
I'm outta here!

It's hard one to call at this stage, I think Dublin and Donegal are the only two sides who are 100% staying up.

Kerry and Mayo will go from strength to strength now after the break, and Monaghan could struggle to get another 2 points.

Down haven't a hope of staying up so there the first team gone .

Ain't seen the Rossies yet so don't really know . Cannot see Kerry or Mayo going down .

We could go down sure but hopefully the three week break has come at the right time for us and get more of our regulars back. We can't soak up injuries as good as Dublin. Been a bad weekend all around as I watched my club loose an all ireland title sat evening against Kerry opposition again.

It could very well depend on team selections for the final round of games. If, for instance, Donegal are already in the final they won't want to get into a dog fight with Monaghan in Clones. They might use the game to give fringe players or players returning from injury a 'run-out'. Likewise Dublin could use their game to give some game time to panel players.

I think Down & Us unfortunately.
If we can get a few lads back then maybe we will scrape through but based on yesterday I wouldn't be confident.

I would honestly be shocked if that were to happen. We have fell over the line so far but 2 wins is 2 wins, and the break is coming at a good time for us to get a few players back up to speed. We've also got 3 more home games to come, I'd be confident enough of winning another game.
