Where are counties club championships at?

For Cork, hurling the semi-finals are on this Sunday with the final two weeks after.

For Cork, football the semi-finals are on the following Sunday.

The premier intermediate and ordinary intermediate championships are also nearly finished-either finalists are known or semifinals are on this weekend.

There were only two games played in the Cork senior football championship between when Cork played Clare and Cork played Kildare (ie when we were in the championship). There are 36 games in total in the senior football championship.

In hurling there were 6 games played while Cork participated in the championship. There are 34 games in total.

Effectively in June and July the club championship grinds to a halt while the senior county teams play. The replay v Kerry and the fact that you cannot plan for certain whether you will be in the backdoor or not means that club championships cannot be played. Unfortunately.

Here in Antrim we are at the Final in the Senior Hurling and the Football is at the semi-final stage.

The hurling final is between Ballycastle and Cushendall and the semi finals were as expected i.e. Loughgiel and Dunloy making up the losing semi-finalists. First round of the Championship was the 29th August with 8 teams involved (1/4 Final)

The football semi finals are Creggan v Cargin and Lamh Dhearg v Rossa and are due to be played next weekend. St Galls and Cargin went head to head in the 1/4 final with Cargin disposing of St Galls easily enough. The first round of the Football was played on the weekend end July/start August.

Just to clarify - the teams who made up the semi finals were as expected, not that Dunloy and Loughgiel lost.

We are the same here in Meath.. Hurling semi-finals this weekend with the Football semi-finals scheduled for the following weekend. God only knows how long it would take to run our club championships if Meath ever reached another AI Final... Mind you wont have to worry about that for some time...

Kilcar 9/4
St . Eunans 9/4
St .Michaels 11/4
Glenties 11/4

These are the odds on the Donegal semi finals .

I've never witnessed four sides being closer in the betting .

Up here there are no great teams which always makes for a close champo .

This weekend : Kilcar V Naomh Conaill ( Glenties )

St . Michaels V St Eunans

In Sligo we have not even reached knock out stages. Last group games this weekend, with QF scheduled for weekend of 3/4 October. Hard to imagine how this can happen for a county like Sligo, where an extended Championship run ended on August 1st, and contained 3 Championship games (2 in Connacht & 1 in All Ireland series). Zero consideration given to club players in the county. County final is scheduled for October 25th!! How it takes 12 weeks to run off a championship that already had round 1 played in June is beyond me, but Im sure there is some logic to it!!

The first championship final in Louth is on this weekend with Clan na Gael from Dundalk talking on Kilkerley Emmets in the Inter football final. This is a North Louth derby as there is only four miles between their pitches. Kilkerley who were the Bookies favs to win it at the start of the campaign were relegated last year from senior. Both of these teams met in the group stage and it ended in a draw. It should be another close game.

Thanks for that. It seems fairly shocking alright that it is delayed by such a long time? What causes the delay as a matter of interest? Are their dual clubs or club delegates that seek postponements willy nilly (sometimes for frivolous reasons)? How many games are there is the group stage for each time? Is their too many (In Cork we just have knockout with backdoor for our championships.

Not having a go at Louth but could (or, in your opinion, should) the Louth championships not be finished by now? Your senior team are out of the championship a while ..was there not enough time to run off the championships before October? I know the intermediate chmapionship is on Sunday but I assume by your post that the senior one is still going..

As I said not having a go, just interested to see what county boards are most efficient at planning their club championships.

It is crazy isn't it! The Championship has 4 groups of 3 with home and away fixtures against each - so each team has 4 group games but it takes 6 rounds to achieve that. then 1/4, semi and final so 9 rounds to be played. They played no senior championship on weekend of football or hurling all ireland, meaning most teams had only 1 game in September!
Another reason for the delay is that the league was put on hold and two rounds had to be played after Sligo were eliminated. This was due to league games being cancelled prior to the Connacht semi v Roscommon to allow county team to prepare. Some of these games ended up being played without county players anyway!!
County manager has too much power.

I would hate to see how long it would take if Sligo ever got a successful team that was still playing football in September!!

The Tyrone Senior championship is at the Semi final stage this weekend:

Championship favourites Dromore take on the 2014 League champions Killyclogher tonight in what should be a pulsating encounter.

On Sunday Coalisland take on Mattie Donnellys' Trillick, Coalisland should progress here as Trillick will sorely miss the services of Fergal Ward

Some serious talent on display next weekend in Dublin, probably only cost a tenner to see it yet there are a lot of Dublin 'fans' that don't even know how to get to Parnell Park.
See you all in Croker next summer.

Nice little rant there, don't know what came over me.
