And so it begins, the business end of the championship. For sure I couldn't see us being here at this stage back in May and the qualifiers have been a bit of a slow burner along the way but here we are and I can't wait for next weekend. Monaghan are Ulster champions and deservedly so, they did beat our nemesis in the final after all and have to be respected for that alone. I do have a sneaky feeling that we are overdue a big performance soon enough and with all respect to Sligo today we always looked in control at all times but Monaghan will not allow us the space to run at them that Sligo afforded us. That said today was the first time this season that our forwards clicked to any real degree and not just in the second half and with 15 of our 21 scores coming from play and shared between 10 scorers, this has given me grounds for optimism for Sunday. So, for me it will be Tyrone by 4 and a date with Kerry at Croke park, bring it on. brendtheredhand (Tyrone) - Posts: 10897 - 01/08/2015 20:18:30 1762147 Link 0 |

Tell it like it is Brend.lol.Do feel we are improving with each game and definitely have the ability to beat Monaghan. They are Ulster champs for a reason though so lets see what happens! seanie_boy (Tyrone) - Posts: 4235 - 01/08/2015 20:40:20 1762162 Link 0 |
The great thing from our point of view here is this was the game we wanted contrary to media reports and the media will talk Tyrone up for next week with most saying they are already in the semi final. We weren't ready in 2013 for Tyrone in a quarter final but we will be this time. Tyrone looked decent today but there is no way they will get any of the same space the next day to kick points. Sean Kavanagh still the go to man for Tyrone am confident he will be kept well marshalled. Will be a titanic battle but they are the kind this Monaghan side relishes. Monaghan by two. seanie08 (Monaghan) - Posts: 1799 - 01/08/2015 20:42:38 1762163 Link 0 |

I wouldn't read too much into the quality or spread of scorers from today's game, or use it as a yardstick for how Tyrone will do from now on. Their forwards certainly won't get the same amount of time or space again this year, and they were put under very little pressure. At a glance 21 points does look impressive, but I wouldn't be overly concerned over anything I seen today. Most likely there won't be much in it but I'd be disappointed if we weren't in the semi-final. patk (Monaghan) - Posts: 936 - 01/08/2015 20:44:39 1762168 Link 0 |
I would fully expect Monaghan to win this,Tyrone will be happy to be in the last 8,but they have not impressed.. ziggy32001 (Meath) - Posts: 8354 - 01/08/2015 20:45:07 1762169 Link 0 |

Absolutely buzzing for this game against the team that we really did want in the quarter finals. Had to laugh at Canavan today when saying that Monaghan would be hoping that Galway beat Doegal so we could avoid Tyrone. His view of everyone writing Tyrone off in 2013 was also utter rubbish. This year is so much different to 2013 as we have had a week extra to prepare and celebrations didn't last near as long. I love that the media are beginning to write us off but I can't quite understand why. Tyrone have beaten two division four teams, a depleted Tipperary side who were divisions three, and scraped by a Meath side who were extremely poor. I understand Tyrone have always been our bogey team but we beat them last year with a half-fit McManus and I feel we are even stronger this year. Here's hoping to a good game - muineachán abú monaghanfan (Monaghan) - Posts: 22 - 01/08/2015 21:09:45 1762184 Link 0 |

Now we know our opponent's I think most Monaghan supporters will be happy we have Tyrone,a team that we respect 100 percent but if ever we are going to get the respect we feel we deserve we have to win this one. I feel that will put in a massive performance next week and get that semi final spot but it will have to be above any performance so far this year. Monaghan are strong favourites with the bookies. So if Tyrone win it would be an upset. tyroneed (Tyrone) - Posts: 753 - 01/08/2015 21:57:36 1762223 Link 0 |
Should be a great game on a day that will see 4 really well supported teams battle it out in Croke Park. MuckrossHead (Donegal) - Posts: 5028 - 01/08/2015 22:00:30 1762225 Link 0 |
