Has it ever been done before, a minor all Ireland with Kerry in Sept 14 and a lenister senior cup with Roscrea in Mach 15, fantastic achievement.

Could be wrong but think some of the guys in Munster have done a schools senior cup and all Ireland double. Not so sure about Leinster schools senior cup and an all ireland

Who cares. Apart From one Or two skillful lads The rest are just bash merchants. Why do rugby snobs insist on boring gaa fans with facts about a minority elitist sport? This is a gaa forum!!

I agree with Ormond. Fair play where it is due. Call them Elite all you want but Roscrea had never won the schools cup before. In fact they won the all ireland colleges B Hurling about 15 years ago with John O'Brien(Tipp) and Redmond Barry(Wexford) in their ranks. Traditionally a school that plays all sports rather than focus on Rugby alone. Should be encouraged across all schools.

DLS Churchtown are the only non fee paying school to win the Senior cup in Leinster. But then again Blackrock have won twice as many as all the rest combined so hard to break into that kind of dominance.

Question about Roscrea and them playing in the Leinster competition. When I saw that they won Leinster my immediate thought was is Roscrea not in Munster so I went on to the net and thanks to Wiki it explained the whole playing fields etc being in Leinster/Offaly even though the address is Tipp. Would Leinster be seen as a more prestigious competition to win than Munster in the schools competition or why did they elect to go in to that competition rather than Munster?

It had to be said! I'm sure the lad is a good sportsman but rugger and school's rugger in particular is elitist, apart from that it's pretty awful to watch.

Very few but no school has ever been stopped from competing in a schools cup and the schools cups that get all the media attention or the top ranked competition of many levels that start back in september 19/03/2015 09:46:28 jpcampion I agree with Ormond. Rarely see rugby supporters online dismissing GAA like the GAA lads do to rugby.

Offside,
Schools Rugby in Leinster is restricted to fee paying private schools. I would say that having a Leinster schools cup win on your CV going for a job in some of the banking/financial institutes bodes well as the executives of these institutes don't send their kids to your local CBS.
The last time I checked Roscrea was in Tipp and Tipp was in Munster. Yes it could very well be a status/prestige thing.

Cheers Ormond - they should look at getting their address changed as they aren't Roscrea/Tipperary at all if they are in Offaly.

Everyday is a school day Daytona - didn't realise that it was that elitist in Leinster if thats right about only fee paying schools. I also never realised there were so many private schools in the South until recently.

I'm no big fan of rugby but I watched the end of the schools final the other day and it was a lot better to watch than both club finals from Croke Park that I had sat through. Apart from that the original post was just to congratulate the young lad on a great personal acheivement,so fair play to him, not to spark the usual debate about which sport is elitist and which isn't.

The last time I checked Roscrea was in Tipp and Tipp was in Munster. Yes it could very well be a status/prestige thing. How is schools rugby in Leinster restricted to fee paying private schools? You do realise the cups that get the media attention are simply the culmination of several months competitions at various levels. The actual School, Cistercian Roscrea is in Leinster and that is why they play in Leinster. Nothing to do with status/prestige 19/03/2015 13:06:23 Offside_Rule Cheers Ormond - they should look at getting their address changed as they aren't Roscrea/Tipperary at all if they are in Offaly. Then the postal system needs to change Ormond. If its in Offaly and Leinster then it can't also be in Roscrea, Tipperary which is in Munster.

Name 10 pure public community schools in Leinster that enter the senior schools cup?
