Positive or Negative; Thoughts? Ulsterman (Antrim) - Posts: 9688 - 28/02/2015 18:50:26 1697699 Link 0 |
negative....publicly he was very poor pr wise...looking for an apology over a few tweets for instance..his open preference towards hurling didnt help things on the football side..and the review committee was largely a failure and brought nothing major to the table fabio8 (USA) - Posts: 2182 - 28/02/2015 19:55:24 1697728 Link 0 |
His hurling bias was a problem, he kept trying to do down the life blood of the gaa, FOOTBALL, royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 28/02/2015 21:22:26 1697766 Link 0 |
Lads, try to remember that most football people,as well as the general Irish sports fan, are very negative toward football these days, so you can hardly blame a hurling man for being the same. joncarter (Galway) - Posts: 2692 - 28/02/2015 21:39:13 1697770 Link 0 |

As a result of signing in the Sky deal he said he ended up with two sleepless weeks, so why did supersub15 (Carlow) - Posts: 2904 - 01/03/2015 10:40:42 1697815 Link 0 |

In his term some of the biggest changes in recent years were made to the game of football and hurling. People may agree or disagree with those changes but to say he didn't achieve anything is just not true. What did people want, limit the handpass in football - not a hope of that getting through - the GAA moves slowly. Again the SKY thing has its supporters and nay sayers so to do nothing would have been the easier option but it wasn't taken. The GAA has to try and identify where it needs to be and experiment with different things but a lot of people would rather sit on their hands and then give out when some one tries to do something new. zinny (Wexford) - Posts: 1792 - 01/03/2015 12:51:38 1697856 Link 0 |
Done ok. Witnessed him react to criticisms personally and always a bit cranky which I think didn't help him pr wise. Brolly (Monaghan) - Posts: 4472 - 01/03/2015 13:02:57 1697867 Link 0 |
Oversaw the garth brooks debacle, and saw an all ireland semi final moved to facilitate a nothing game of american football. Two massive blots on the copy-book of the gaa TheMaster (Mayo) - Posts: 16187 - 01/03/2015 13:14:33 1697872 Link 0 |

Poor. Like most GAA officialdom stuck with the status quo and refused to address things which need to be addressed like the uneven nature of the County Football season which sees most teams only getting 2 or 3 games in the top competition. tyroneed (Tyrone) - Posts: 753 - 01/03/2015 13:53:47 1697892 Link 0 |
Having met the man once or twice he came across to me as decent & genuine. I don't think you can point the finger of blame at him for the Garth Brooks debacle. keeper7 (Longford) - Posts: 4088 - 01/03/2015 14:11:00 1697899 Link 0 |
he was head of the organisation...it is up to him to handle things perfectly..look at the all ireland semi replay shambles..he did nothing to improve the game..as much as people give out about sepp blatter the idea of him slagging off soccer would be quite laughable fabio8 (USA) - Posts: 2182 - 01/03/2015 14:22:26 1697906 Link 0 |
well I think the semi final replay in Limerick turned out to be a success. It was a full ground with a heaving atmosphere, far removed from the vast swathes of empty seats we would have seen in croker. handier for the travelling supporters too. I hope more all Ireland semi finals get played in place like Limerick, Thurles etc. joncarter (Galway) - Posts: 2692 - 02/03/2015 15:53:36 1698390 Link 0 |
what positive points do you think o neill brought to the organisation? fabio8 (USA) - Posts: 2182 - 02/03/2015 16:38:10 1698417 Link 0 |
Im not his biggest fan, and I dont spend time studying the activities of the president of the association. That aspect of the GAA doesnt interest me that much. Im not a big fan of his or anything, and I cant think of anything really positive hes done that stand out (im sure there are positives), but i just dont think that the things being mentioned in above posts to have a pop at him are that bad. joncarter (Galway) - Posts: 2692 - 02/03/2015 16:44:32 1698420 Link 0 |
I'd say he is a decent enough man and did his best while in office. In one of his last interviews last week he referred to the new rule regarding numbers on the sideline on match day and how ihe is pleased with how it is working. He maintains it did away with confrontations between rival management teams etc on the sideline. It probably did but judging on this year's league games to date that new rule has already being forgotten about. Between managers, selectors, water carriers, stats people, county board officials etc, there is upwards of twenty on the sideline once again. Nothing will be done until there is another outbreak of fighting. westisthebest (Galway) - Posts: 444 - 02/03/2015 19:40:22 1698492 Link 0 |
he was a very poor president..did nothing to bring the gaa forward and slagged the most popular sport in this country by a considerable distance..why are my posts not allowed?..some poor pr incidents also like the incident of the players on twitter fabio8 (USA) - Posts: 2182 - 02/03/2015 20:05:14 1698501 Link 0 |
