U21 B Hurling Final on TG4

(Oldest Posts First)

Is this the only instance whereby counties like Roscommon & Kildare get any real hurling coverage? The Ring, Rackard & Meagher Cups really need their TV rights given to TG4 coz RTE will never cover them!

I love hurling but you couldnt expect RTE to cover this game. Its simply not big enough.

Well done to Kildare. That Keegan chap is fine hurler. Some good skills on display. I suppose main difference is pace and accuracy. You never see Kildare or Roscommon players on college teams so big gap to bridge. Mind you, Dubs on Dublin college teams were as rare as hen's teeth up to 5/6 years ago.

Roscommon were poor. They've a tiny pick. 6 or 7 clubs

Would it be better to give all counties a chance to compete in the U21 championship proper? Give all counties a go in their respective provinces (including a Connacht U21 hurling championship), and leave all teams knocked out before the provincial semi-final stage compete in the 'b' All-Ireland (or U21 AI Shield). Might benefit players from all counties at that age group to cut their teeth against higher level counties, best time to do it.

By the way, the save the Roscommon goalkeeper pulled off in the 44th minute of the game yesterday has to be a candidate for save of the year, acrobatic stuff.

It is. Do you really think TG4 would show more of games like this as I don't think so

For many counties it would be just needless hammerings.

Certainly RTE will not show live Lory Meaghar cup games any time soon.

TG4 have done a wonderful job regularly showing ladies football. They are more likely to show Lory Meagher/Ring/Rackard cups etc than RTE.

Does anybody know who has the rights to Lory Meagher games at present?

RTE has the rights to all senior championship games. 2 years ago these 2 counties played a brilliant final. Maybe yesterday's game didn't live up to that? I also think that we are somewhat spoiled when it comes to the incredible standard of hurling we see on TV every year so that when we see a lower level it seems slower & laboured.

In fairness to the standard on show, Gerry Keegan of Kildare (centre forward) & Noel Fallon (Roscommon 'keeper) were top class & would be on any U21 hurling panel in the country.

Congratulations to Kildare. We won it late against them last year. Been a good year for Kildare, winning the Christy Ring and all that. With London dropping down next year, it's going to be a tough competition to win. That's been part of the aim really. All the endless promotion had weakened the competition a bit.
