Something seriously amiss in the Clare hurling camp if one of the best young hurlers in the country quits the reigning All-Ireland champions for the Clare football team, even if his Da is the manager!

Isn't John Galvin playing for cratloe now as well so if he joins up with the Clare team they could be very dangerous.

I can understand both sides. Davy obviously has said " no dual players" and as a manager of a team with ambitions to win the All Ireland he is right to make that rule, just like the ambitious Jim Gavin is right to insist on it for the Dublin football team. You cant hope to win an All Ireland anymore if a handful of the players are dual stars, because it does affect their game.


But obviously from Paudge Collins's point pf view he was always going to opt for the team being managed by his father.I expect Davy would allow him to be the exception if it wasnt for the fact that half his team are dual players.

Blood is thicker than water as they say. Clare footballers have no chance of silver wear unless they manage a 1992 rewind in the coming years which from the outside looking in is higly unlikely. Clare hurlers on the other hand have massive potential to win more All Ireland;s in the coming years.

Cant see Galvin going to Clare at inter county level. Anyway he is will be about 35 next year and has had a lot of injuries so his inter county days are numbered anyway. This 'Collins thing' could be serious for Clare. I strongly feel that the 'ban on footballers', during the 'Whelan Era' was hugely detrimental to the Limerick hurling team in the early 'oughties' and could have similar consequences for Clare if it is not handled with extreme caution.

Two managers, one will accommodate you, one won't, makes it a simple choice. Question - is there a player welfare issue here? One manager is putting a 'win at all costs' mentality before careful player management, you could draw parallels between this and injury prevention etc, who cares about the means as long as the end is achieved.
How true are the rumours re Kinnerk and O'Connor leaving? Or what are the reasons for this if true?
I'll refrain from 'there are signs that the wheels are coming off' theories unless armed with more concrete info!

You could see this coming - Sad that a player who excited the nation last year is now about to disappear into neverland. While he'll be missed Clare wont be found wanting in the forward department over the next few years.
Yesterday showed the level required to win All-Ireland's. I think Davy is right if he's saying that's its either one or the other.

I didn't expect it but not entirely surprised, Clare wanted no dual players so the brothers want to play for the team managed by their dad. It will probably be sorted by the time the new season comes around and Collins will more than likely be back with the Clare hurlers as long as he is allowed play football also. The only reason Galvin is playing for Cratloe is because he lives there and is more convenient for him to play club football there, from what has been said he will continue on with Limerick at inter county level.

The footballers are managed by his dad, and he already has an all Ireland hurling medal (prob has a couple of them), so maybe he has decided to see if he can have some big ball success, but I think its a bizarre decision all the same.
He has given up his place on a team with genuine hopes of all Ireland glory for a team who would consider a couple of good results in the qualifier series a good season.

Many of my Clare contacts argue that the Collins's first love was always football. If that's true, it's hardly surprising that they made this decision, particularly if one of their potential managers was banning them from playing the game at all.

Yup. true fabio8, but you wouldnt achieve what he has in hurling without having a serious love of the game.
Id say the most likely scenrio is Davy forced his hand,and Collins said "if thats the way you want it", and threw in his lot with the footballers. Hes a talented hurler, but if he was going to be spending half his time with the footballers this year, the hurlers might be better off with someone concentrating solely on the small ball game.

I hope Aidan Walsh chooses football next year. Ditto Eoin Cadogan.

I hope both senior managers drop Damien Cahalane from both panels. I have nothing against the chap. I admire his dedication. I just don't think he is good enough for either and has ruined himself this year trying to do both.
