Mayo v Cork

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Mayo v Cork should be a cracker if it happens , I'm sure Mayo folk will be nervous of this game cause Cork couldn't possibly be as bad as they were against Kerry and on paper have a very good team and panel. I know Cork have to play Sligo but if they did meet what do posters think?

Cork have to be the disappointment of the year so far. Up to the Tipp game, I'd expected them to deal with Kerry. Was suspicious of that performance and when it was repeated and they got well beat. Nephew was at the Munster final and couldn't believe how bad it was. He watched it later on TV and said it looked worse being at it.
Can they rediscover their league form and play football instead of this sideways thing they've reverted to? Hopefully they can as I think they could seriously challenge if let loose. Sligo game could be the ideal platform for this and I expect them to win and win well!

Mayo will beat them , Horan as been changing the team a lot of late but I think he may have found his best team in the Connacht final

If both sides current outright odds were reflected into match odds here is how they would bet

Mayo 1/3
Cork 3/1
Draw 8/1

I know which side I'd be backing

I believe Cork will give Sligo a sound beating.10 points minimum, which will set them up nicely for a crack at Mayo. That would be a dangerous game for Mayo.Really a game that could go either way.

If Cork have another bad day out I can see the dual players favouring the hurling and putting most of their effort into that for the rest of the year as they seem to be one of the better teams in the hurling this year.

Do cork have many duel players or any? I thought it was only counties like clare that had duel players, that played at inter county level.

I fancy Kerry to beat either Tipp or Galway as Sligo v Cork is a formality and Cork cannot draw Kerry again until the semis. In that case, it is going to be kerry v mayo. Almost certainly.

Cahalane, Walsh & Cadogan are all dual stars, Walsh has been really impressive for the hurlers this year and has also stood up when the footballers needed leadership

Cork will beat Sligo, Galway should beat Tipperary, but its one of those that Tipp could take on the day.
That would setup a Mayo v Cork and Kerry v Galway quarter finals. I would see a Mayo/Cork v Kerry Semi final, which Kerry will win regardless. Mayo are not 100% this year, and I would expect Kerry to go through to the final.

Still think the finalist from the other side of the draw will win the All Ireland.

That is incredible commitment. Fair play.

Galway v Tipperary is a hard one to call. Tipperary are a rising team. Galway will be eager to get to the quarter-finals.

It's a shame it isn't encouraged more. It really is an exceptional trait to be an intercounty player in both codes. I would have loved to see Ciaran Kilkenny give the small ball a go this year given the fact he won everything except an all-star last year.

Mayo are really coming in under the radar. All talk of Dublin Region v Donegal in a semi-final and whether the Northern blanket can stop the Dublin machine. Mayo are waiting in the long grass. Hurting from two All-Ireland defeats. A record of having knocked out the All-Ireland champions 3 years in-a-row. If they do it this year, they will be champions.

Great commitment from the three dual players, but came in for serious abuse during and after Kerry match from so called supporters, was at the game and could not believe it. All three are very good at both codes. I think Cork when they get over Sligo will prove to be hard to beat.

As disrespectful as that comment is to Cork, I expect Mayo to see them off. They are a top 4 team along with Dublin Donegal and Kerry (and that has nothing to do with winning their respective provinces, I honestly think all 4 have a realistic chance of winning Sam this year while I'd be shocked if anyone else won it).

If Cork win today, and its looking like they'll win easily, Id give them a good chance of beating Mayo. mayo barely got tested in Connacht, and were still nearly beaten by the rossies. After the heartbreak of the last 3 years, I wonder if they have the resolve for another war. Don't get me wrong, id love to see them win the whole thing (although Id probably be sorry they won it within a week), but if Cork can really put it up to them, Mayo heads might drop.
