After everything Tipp threw at him yesterday he continued to hurl his own game, and hurl a great game at that. Without doubt the best of his generation.
9 all stars and the 10th on the way.

I was at the game yesterday and he was absolutely outstanding. Won every ball that came anywhere near him, truly a fantastic player.

No arguing his class, but Tommy lives on the edge constantly. That said, yesterday I could only admire his restraint after getting a yellow and hurling like a legend all the ways through to the end.
In pure hurling terms it's hard to see a better half back than him out there right now. Sheer class.

Not just the greatest half-back of his generation for me, but the greatest hurler in that Walsh could play in any position and dominate.

Best defender of this generation by a distance is Ollie canning. Id like to see Tommy Walsh if he didn't have such great hurlers around him.

2 fatal flaws in the argument - use of conditionals. All we can do is deal in facts.

Tommy was the most clever man on the pitch yesterday, let Tipp try to rile him and clear every ball that came his way! Will be a timely reminder for anyone who tries similar tactics with him. When it wasnt working, Corbett and co should have tried to hurl the ball.
Best half back without doubt.

I have to agree Tommy Walsh was outstanding yesterday but Tipp played right into his hands with their appalling tactics. This guy has won 9 All-Stars in a row and as a previous poster said can hurl anywhere. He plays the game on the edge and is no saint but he has never proclaimed to be which is why Tipp's tactics yesterday were futile i.e. he can give it but boy can he take it as well. Corbett's tactics were embarrassing. KK had tagged on 2 points while he was making his way back to the pitch. He had apparently "things to do". At this level it beggars belief.

As majestic as he is folks I think Tommy Wlash is not even the best half back on his team !! JJ Delaney is the greatest wing half back that ever lifted a hurl. Tommy a close 2nd . What a team !!

Tommy is a great player but JJ is a much more complete defender.

You can't judge a player just on his medals, Ollie has 3 of AI club titles, Tommy has none, but that doesn't make Tommy a bad player

If you absolutely positively needed to keep an opposition player scoreless in a match then you wouldn't put Tommy on him, you'd go with Tyrell or JJ first. Tommy doesn't man-mark per se, he hurls a zone that basically seems to cover the entire right-hand quarter of the pitch. So in the strictest sense, not the best "defender" in the truest meaning of the word (ie keeping your man scoreless), but pound-for-pound one of the best hurlers that ever played the game.

Ollie Canning was better than Tommy Walsh ever was. he has 3 club all irelands and Tommy has none so he also has medals that Tommy does not have.

Ollie Canning was one of the best defenders of his generation. Unbelievable talent. But to say he is better than Tommy Walsh is wrong. Plain and simple.
I would actually go as far as to say that Walsh is arguably the best hurler of all time.

Ha ha ha ha ha Thurlasblues is now a Galway man
Ollie Canning was a good player but does he have 9 All Stars? Regardless of All Irelands because both men have played on great teams, but All Stars are given to the best players in a given year. Ollie certainly never got close to anywhere near 9 nor do I remember him ever getting player of the year.
I'd say it's a close call between Tommy and JJ for the greatest half back of this era but god help the panel that pick the next greatest hurling team of all time. I suppose Tommy could play in goal if you needed him to.
