Why would neutrals shout for Cork over Waterford?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

was out watching the match yesterday for a change, and from what I say some fellow GAA people were shouting for Cork over Waterford..no disrespect to Cork, but compared to Waterford they have won much much more..maybe they had Cork backed or other but it surprised me..surely Waterford winning was what most neutrals would want, no more than the final now, with Galway, who haven't won in 28 years..Waterford haven't won in over 50 so surely most neutrals will hope Waterford get their All Ireland, great Waterford teams have come and gone I wont even mention the names of the players involved..Waterford have laid the foundations with wins in minor and U21 in recent years so surely deserve their day in the sun...

People can shout for whoever they like.I was shouting for Cork yesterday.I have always admired Cork hurling, they play the ball not the man and their supporters are great crack and usually modest in victory and gracious in defeat.

I tend to shout for the underdog and I've a slight preference for Waterford to lift Liam this year but overall I'm just pleased it'll be someone outside the 3 usual suspects.

Fairplay for mentioning minor foundations there. In the last 25 seasons, Galway have won 9, lost 8, and only failed to play in 8 minor finals. A record that might well be second to none in the period?

Maybe it was just the crowd you were watching it with as I watched it out myself and most there were up for Waterford.
Perhaps some are of the mind that the way Waterford set up is not for them, hence the support for Cork but I doubt many in Waterford will care too much about them today.

Cork have won loads

I dont happen to think teams should play to a template style. Leave that to the fashion industry.

Waterford for a change. What a great final we have - fair play to both County's

I'm not hugely into hurling but I liked the Cork style this year. Play from half back line with measured ball, defend high in numbers to win the ball back farther up the field. It was exciting to watch and had me rooting for Cork most of this year.

It's great to see though that whoever wins this year will have stopped a drought.

Definitely back Cork, for the very selfish reason that I fancy Galway's chances against them in the final more than I do against Waterford.

I like the way Cork play the game and always enjoy watching them. But I really have a soft spot for Waterford I love their fans the passion and excitement they bring and their team is just an extension of that exuberance.

Personally I don't particularly care who is "shouting" for who in the final, as I'm sure most of my Waterford friends won't either.
I hope all the neutrals enjoy it, and may the best team win.

Was up for Waterford have a soft spot for them since the Flynn Mullane days , also a county starved of success is always worth getting behind , so at a push I will be shouting for Brick and the boys that said I'm breaking from tradition as I've been shouting for Galway for Donkeys years , it's win win iif Galway win in the year a legend passed all too soon and big Joe getting a winners medal well that ain't so bad either

Some people support favourites or successful teams with loads of All Ireland titles but for me unless Mayo are playing I always back the lesser county, in that regard I mean a team that hasn't won the All Ireland title in donkeys years so yesterday I was backing Waterford, last week it was Galway, looking forward to the final, at least some counties famine will end, either Galway's of 30 years or Waterford's 58 years, should be a cracking game

true, but Galway were winning minors and U21's when God was a boy and still under achieved to a huge degree at senior level..I am dealing with Waterford and Cork in my post...
