National - Start Diarmuid Connolly or not?

Replying To neverright:  "Don't think he is good enough to start but could have a part to play coming off the bench long after the early 'exchanges' have been sorted out."
There may well be many reasons for not starting Connolly against Tyrone, but to suggest he is not good enough to play is definitely not one of them. Whether you like or hate him, Connolly is one of the best natural footballers in the country.

100% start him if hes going well in training..we have enough impact subs on the bench we dont need another one..in form hes the best in the country. big games need big players..i think he'll raring to go against tyrone..forget about the liability crap, sure if thats the case you'd never start him again..gavin might not name him in the line up..but i reckon he'll get the nod..up dublin..

I wouldn't be playing him at all until he improves his discipline

He has to start. I agree with a previous poster who said that we have enough impact subs. Brogan, mcmanamon are the ones to bring on to change a game.

Struggling with the old grey matter, I see. If you get it sorted, tell us who you would drop to accommodate Connolly.

The obvious one to lose out from the forwards that started against Monaghan would be Eric Lowdnes.

Here's the first thread Id have cried laughing if Liamo had commented on it , anyway may opinion hasn't changed , wouldn't start him , but wouldn't be too bothered if he did start.

I would leave him on the bench. If Jim starts him and Dublin loose then it will be all Dermo's fault, even if he scored all Dublins scores. Bring him on after about 45 minutes it would lift the crowd and the other Dublin players and given him a nice run before the all Ireland should Dublin beat Tyrone.
But I actually think Tyrone will win this game and it will be a lot closer than many people think. Tyrone have beaten better opposition than Dublin so far this year.

The fact that a back was selected for that position the last day, will make it easy for Jim Gavin to select
Diarmuid Connolly on Sunday. Assuming he is in good shape, I think it is best that he is started in the
circumstances. I think there may be opportunities to score long range points on Sunday and he maybe
best to score those on Sunday. I think Diarmuid Connolly is a top class player, stamina has never been
an issue with him, he is a player for the full seventy minutes. Despite what Owen Mulligan said in regard
to special treatment by Tyrone, should Dublin select him on Sunday, I think Diarmuid Connolly has had
twelve weeks now to reflect on this and is most unlikely to get on the wrong side of the rules on Sunday.
By not starting him, would probably kick the problem down the road for the final, should Dublin qualify.
Dublin are only two games away from three in a row and five All-Irelands this decade, they will need to
select their best players to accomplish this.

I'm guessing he means that Tyrone have played teams that he feels are better than the teams Dublin have played so far?
