Smoke free Croker

(Oldest Posts First)

I see that there will be no smoking permitted anywhere inside the grounds of Croker for the hurling semi. Not the ideal situation for a smoker since the nerves will surely be well tested.

Very difficult to enforce in Croker with the amount of space to cover. You're not allowed currently smoke on the Hill but that doesn't stop people.

Lansdowne Rd has been smoke free since its redevelopment but that doesn't stop people.

You could try the GAA healthy alternative option = over priced gargle

Good stuff.

As a non smoker, I absolutely hate the smell or even sensation of smoking anywhere in my vicinity. The more smoke free areas the better. Especially with kids going to games, why pollute their air.

However, people should be able to smoke and have designated areas for that. Just saying 'ah ye can't smoke here' is not good enough.

And unfortunately not just tobacco.

I'm not a smoker and do not agree with smoking in General public but I think there should be designated areas within the stadium. People will smoke regardless so it is better to control it

Don't know about 'unfortunately'.

I've been near plenty of people at matches over the years that would benefit from some herbal relaxant.

I'm a non smoker non drinker but I agree should be designated areas for that away from places in croker where they sell food. Thomand Park is a perfect example of this.
Was walking out of thurles towards my car after the double header few weeks ago and as I got near to Dunne's there was two lads from Waterford smoking some stuff in front of me jez I was nearly high by d time I got back to d car from the whiff. I'd say if I came across a checkpoint I was toast.

Has to be a area for smokers. And this is a non smoker saying this.
Its like the hospitals with the blue lines. My uncle had lived a long life and was a smoker all his adult life, he was moved in his dressing gown away from a area at a hospital to stand outside gate, the man was dying anyway and he should have been accommodated in a designated area, a few fags wasn't going to kill him off, he never drank and was a lifelong pioneer with all the pins , and he had liver failure. Sometimes nanny States are not the way to go.

Couldn't agree more. Awful to see patients in dressing gowns (& some with drips) forced out on the street outside hospitals to have a comforting smoke. Similarly there should be protected designated smoking areas in all stadia and especially Croke Park (where in fairness the designated areas are good unless you are in Premium or Corporate).

It bemuses me that Croke Park can go smoke free while lashing out gazillion gallons of porter and other alcohol products without a care in the world. Nothing worse than being seated next to a fellah full of porter spluttering, shouting and farting his way through a game. At least the smokers leave their smoke in the designated areas.

Absolutely agree. I am a ex smoker, but I find the smell of alcohol much more disgusting. They will load up drunkin yobs to the gills but won't give a designated area away from people for someone to have a fag.
