Another inconsistent application of the rules. Kerry player deliberately takes out a Galway fella in full flow, straight black but gets a yellow. Yesterday tbe Kildare player deliberately takes out Armagh forward, straight black but gets a yellow. What has Eugene McGee for to say about this nonsense now? Totally ridiculous! It's a nonsense rule that is inconsistently applied. There doesn't seem to be any reason not to get rid of it. MesAmis (Dublin) - Posts: 13693 - 30/07/2017 14:53:31 2025893 Link 2 |
Kerry man should have had a black card - referee made a massive error - but RTE don't comment cuchulainn35 (Armagh) - Posts: 1664 - 30/07/2017 14:53:39 2025894 Link 0 |
It all boils down to one thing. Bad referees. If it was a Galway man he would be sitting in the hogan stand. The problem is the standard of referees is so bad, that they can't drop them all at once. Seriously I would struggle to name one fair referee at inter county level. shaggylegend (Monaghan) - Posts: 1923 - 30/07/2017 14:54:11 2025895 Link 0 |
If the black card was used correctly there would be 10 in every match . TheRightStuff (Donegal) - Posts: 1688 - 30/07/2017 15:32:36 2025921 Link 2 |
Application of rules in Gaa is a joke, so many black cards this w'end but not given leading to frustration amongst players & supporters as nobody now knows what's going on as refs are now bottling out & those that do get them are unlucky as it varies from ref to ref. moc.dna (Galway) - Posts: 1212 - 30/07/2017 20:52:37 2026196 Link 0 |
The Kildare goalkeeper incident yesterday was just baffling. Royalio11 (Meath) - Posts: 757 - 30/07/2017 21:59:31 2026252 Link 0 |
Yep seems like there is a concerted effort by refs not to give black cards, I can see the championship getting murkier as a result. TheUsername (Dublin) - Posts: 4441 - 30/07/2017 22:27:54 2026272 Link 0 |
it's an awful awful rule that is ruining games. It was brought in to stop deliberate drag downs that prevented clear scoring chances but was implemented ALL wrong. Dean Rock misses a Leinster final for grabbing an ankle, hardly a goal scoring chance for Kildare on their own six metre line. Three times today kerry deliberately fouled galway to prevent goals, once when the advantage was being played. If a clear penalty kick isn't an advantage then what's the point of that rule also? Connolly black carded in league final... No scoring threat whatsoever, James McCarthy black carded for a body check in the half back line, no scoring threat. Sean cavanagh black Vs Keegan last year, game over for him and no scoring threat at the time either. Fellas long seasons of training ruined by refs who haven't a bean of common sense. Like I said it's an awful rule that should be scrapped immediately. Beacaire Gorm (Dublin) - Posts: 597 - 30/07/2017 22:28:12 2026273 Link 1 |

On one of those goal chances for Galway, the player was fouled, the ref played advantage and the Galway forward was fouled in the square. The ref blew for a free but brought it back for the original free. What is the actual rule on this as I have seen refs in this year's c'ship give the free from where the second foul took place.

I think player, manager and fan power should unite and demand it's removal. I can understand preventing a deliberate goal scoring chance being penalised but the black card is not being used for this. It's hitting fellas for fouls that DON'T affect the outcome of games and that is unfair. It is also NOT being implemented on a consistent basis, many officials are not using it through fear and the negative fallout. I said right from the start that referees are human and emotion and pressure to give, or not give, a black card would be the biggest factor. There were TWO clear examples on Saturday and Sunday in Croke Park where two players took out opposition players and the black card SHOULD have been shown; the referees gave yellows instead. Could someone from Croke Park, or the main instigator and supporter in chief Eugene McGee, explain this? Ulsterman (Antrim) - Posts: 9688 - 31/07/2017 00:23:04 2026339 Link 0 |
The problem is not the rule in itself but the application of it. Remenber, it was brought in for a good reason & it has been largely successful in putting a stop to some of the more cynical stuff that was plaguing the game. MuckrossHead (Donegal) - Posts: 5028 - 31/07/2017 07:58:10 2026372 Link 0 |
