Armagh, Monaghan and the stunning Down were a joy to watch . TheRightStuff (Donegal) - Posts: 1688 - 30/07/2017 00:46:44 2025650 Link 7 |
Totally agree with you TRS, most of the Ulster counties have been a joy to watch this year - Tyrone, Down, Armagh have played some great football and Monaghan are beginning to find their form again. I have been very impressed with Armagh and Down, they have mixed the blanket defence with some great attacking play and they are not afraid to kick long into their full forward line. I was at the 2 games yesterday and they both were really enjoyable. Whammo86 (Antrim) - Posts: 4172 - 30/07/2017 11:30:26 2025781 Link 0 |

Who's discussing how strong they are ? You are taking the post up wrong . I merely pointing out what a nice style meant Ulster sides have . No Ulster team will win the AI IMO. TheRightStuff (Donegal) - Posts: 1688 - 30/07/2017 11:47:07 2025787 Link 4 |
I wouldn't agree with that . As previously stated, we are very poor . Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit . TheRightStuff (Donegal) - Posts: 1688 - 30/07/2017 11:48:04 2025788 Link 3 |
The 2 games were excellent yesterday and as a whole the game has been a lot more attack minded this year, the mark has been a great addition to the game and we're seeing a revival of the big high fielding midfielder this year aswell. uibhfhaili1986 (Offaly) - Posts: 1296 - 30/07/2017 11:57:17 2025793 Link 0 |
Well at least ulster teams have a bit of cop on. Kildare are naive, praised when the should of been criticised for taking on Dublin in a shoot out. Serious lack of tactics again yesterday, walked into Armagh hands as_ky (Kerry) - Posts: 535 - 30/07/2017 11:59:45 2025794 Link 2 |
To be fair I don't think anyone is saying that the remaining Ulster teams are world beaters. It's just that when we constantly have to hear about the horrible football we play even though any independent thought or proper analysis would show that we play as good or better brand of football than most counties. 99% of teams now play a sweeper/blanket/counter attacking game. These games are usually horrible when two teams are no good at it or do not commit to the attack. This year most Ulster counties have mixed defence and attack well which had led to enjoyable games of football. But you will always have the haters who will never acknowledge this. Ah, the ugly duckling has become a beautiful swan. Well, I wouldn't quiet say that just yet. catch22 (USA) - Posts: 2148 - 30/07/2017 12:03:59 2025799 Link 1 |
I did qualify my remarks by saying Donegal are playing football from the dark ages. However credit has to go to Armagh, Tyrone, Down and Monaghan for the improvement in their attacking play, in particular Down and Armagh who play a direct style. I would agree that this is not an Ulster thing, we have seen some great performances from all provinces. Also I don't expect any Ulster side to win the All-Ireland but at least the gap looks to be closing. Green_Gold (Donegal) - Posts: 1870 - 30/07/2017 12:28:32 2025813 Link 0 |
Lads am I missing something about Down? I'd agree that Armagh were excellent last night in attack. Some of their point taking was phenomenal. daytona11 (Kildare) - Posts: 4012 - 30/07/2017 12:42:09 2025819 Link 0 |

Why is it too early to comment regarding Tyrone. Again taking into account that we are not talking about the success of the county but rather the type of football they play. Have you not been impressed with Tyrones attacking football this year? Wally (Tyrone) - Posts: 912 - 30/07/2017 12:59:53 2025835 Link 0 |
There is an an anti Ulster bias down south, there is no doubt in my mind about that, but who cares what they think, Kerry are the most cynical team at the moment, but the bs myth that they play this great band of football continues to be spun by a lot of their ex players in the media, some of the best games have been between Ulster teams, and Connaught teams also this year, Tirchonaill1 (Donegal) - Posts: 2705 - 30/07/2017 13:01:17 2025836 Link 0 |
Well Daytona...That Down team beat the mighty Armagh and also beat Monaghan earlier in the campaign. Down are not a top 8 side but they are no pushovers. Monaghan are operating at a higher level at the moment and werent to be caught out again. The team from Div 1 should always be beating the team hovering in the the Div 2-3 level...As a Kildare man I could see how you would struggle with that idea at the moment. It will be interesting to see who builds on their season more....Down or Kildare. seanfinn (Monaghan) - Posts: 360 - 31/07/2017 13:40:18 2026633 Link 0 |
The first half of the Down v Monaghan game on Saturday was very good, the Armagh v Down game was good, the Down v Monaghan match in armagh was the best game of the year so far..... armagh v Tipp was also good, armagh v kildare was very good beacuse we are all roughly matched cuchulainn35 (Armagh) - Posts: 1664 - 31/07/2017 16:35:08 2026779 Link 0 |
I think Tyrone will be too strong for Armagh and will hen cause an upset of sorts by knocking out Dublin. slayer (Limerick) - Posts: 6480 - 31/07/2017 16:44:58 2026788 Link 0 |
I am by no means a football fan, but I seen the Armagh match on Saturday and thought it was excellent and they played very well. I love old school long range points, tactics in a game are good as well. Pinkie (Wexford) - Posts: 4100 - 31/07/2017 16:53:44 2026795 Link 0 |
