GAA website Ticket Sales

I am a 47 year old man from Galway. Capaptaggle to be exact. I have been a loyal follower of all things Galway GAA my entire life.

I have the kids on the weekend of Aug 6th which absolutely put me on cloud 9 as I would love nothing more than to take my 3 young lads to see Galway v Tipp in the hurling.

I go online to purchase tickets earleir and all that I was being offered was section 336. Down in the very corner and no way I could alter the seats whatsoever. This was after waiting in a que for 10 or 15 minutes.

What is the story here ? The GAA just trying to get rid of the bad sports first ? Money Money Money.

Michael Duignan dead right.

Or maybe they are looking after the season ticket holders who have attended games all year and loyal club members with the general sale ones not being just as good? Plus a lot of people obviously got in the queue before you and got better tickets, again not the gaa faults. I hate the way over every decision someone brings up the gaa being interested in money even when it has nothing to do with what they are talking about.

If you are a loyal fan join the gaa season ticket scheme next year and you will get good seats for all games in croke park.

Also 336 is the Hogan, if the children are u16 you would be safer in the cusack were tickets for children cost 5 euro each. I would also suggest you wait to closer the time now when you will get better tickets. There are some great seats at the front of the upper cusack/Hogan once they open.

Obviously the good seats in the lower stands have been sold already, when the lower stands are filled they will start selling the upper tier tickets, your best bet is to wait an hour and two and then if you're on the ball you'll get central tickets for upper Cusack or Hogan.....thats what I did for this Sundays games and got 3 near the halfway line upper Hogan.

I'm going to Croker for the football on a Sunday and bringing one of the kids. Went online three or four times yesterday and all I was offered with the €5 kids ticket was brutal tickets at the extreme ends of the lower cusack and lower Davin.

Went online last night and they had upper Cusack available but way too high. Tried again late last night and got two in the very front row of the upper cusack right in the centre! Took then needless to say. If you're patient you'll get good tickets. It's a pity they don't show a map of the stadium with available seats marked in green and let you select.

How can you claim it's all about money, money, money, when you can take your 3 lads to an all-Ireland semi-final for 5 euro each, it p*sses me off when people spout the lazy old stereotype of the GAA being all about money. The best tickets will be issued to the participating county boards so get your tickets through your Club

Join the gaa season ticket holder plan?

Are you joking ? Paying for these figurehead's salarys. If I had any belief that the money trickled back to grassroots gaa clubs I would. My football club were turned down for a grant this year. And yet the top brass pulling massive salarys.

Sure you are a loyal fan who goes to all the games so you might as well get a season ticket, it works out cheaper per game than paying into all the matches that you do as a loyal supporter.

What has money and the salary of the head of the gaa got to do with your original point about not getting a good seat?

Of course there are some paid positions in the gaa, an organisation the size of the gaa simply couldn't function without them. And just because your own club didn't get a grant doesn't mean it doesn't trickle its way down. There are 3000 clubs, if every one got a big grant from headquarters the organisation would be burst. If you want to see were the money goes go look at the accounts which are easily available.

The best seats are allocated to season ticket holders and rightly so. At least you were offered some tickets, imagine if the game was sold out before you went looking? Some seats in Croker are better than others but when you're going to watch your county, there, there's never a bad seat to watch from.

If you go to all the matches, you are lining their pockets even more by not having the season ticket!!

There is a saying for that, "cutting off your nose to spite your face" I think it is called.

Season tickets are limited to a certain number for each county so impossible to accomadate every supporter.
I know with the Parnell pass scheme in Dublin they had so many looking to join but each year its almost all renewals so there was an area for people looking to become new members and that quickly got filled up and had to be closed too with only a handful of them actually got into the scheme this year. They need to expand the schemes but the gaa insisting on giving every club in the country tickets to the all ireland finals is preventing this happening which is ridiculous at this stage.

Yet you have no issue paying to watch GAA on sky. Where do you think that money is going?

Season ticket holders are allocated the lower tiered centre tickets. Clubs are probably getting the next best then its online sales. Seems fair?

your post is ridiculous

every club in the country runs fundraising off the few tickets they get every year

Do you expect them to put the best seats in the house online and give the rest to season ticket holders?

I'm pretty sure everyone going to matches wants the best seats ( myself included) but you can only put one arse on every seat. Over the years I've had great seats and crap seats. I've always been a club member and worker but for every good seat there's probably hundreds or even thousands equally "entitled" to that seat. Be content in getting a seat anywhere and especially content if your county is there to watch.

Yeah they make money out of the tickets instead of them going to the counties involved supporters who have gone to their counties games all year.
Plus it prevents county boards improving their hard-core support levels by capping the season ticket schemes instead of allowing them to grow which would see bigger gates at home league game's for each county.

Not really season tickets yes I agree but clubs I don't on the basis that over the last number of years across the country clubs have not bothered to provide tickets for members to games unless it was going to be a full house. The vast majority of tickets for games throughout the year are sold through supervalu, centra and gaa.ie and then come the big days in croke park these outlets are pushed aside and people who have followed their team all year via this outlet are then the ones who loose out. It shows no loyalty to people as they want you to buy tickets via these outlets all year until they know they don't need them anymore and hand the clubs them instead and come all ireland finals not one ticket is even availble to purchase through them outlets which is a slap in the face.
