National - Mayo vs Roscommon

No one's reading too much into Mondays result. Roscommon just didn't show up and a lot of that was down to inexperience. If this Rossie team sticks together and improves they could easily be dishing out lessons themselves in years to come, though hopefully not to my own county. Was very impressed by Diarmuid Murtagh the last day. He got nothing but scraps but still managed to make something of them. A player of genuine class.

As regards Mayo and showing their hand, who says they have? Even if they've finally broken cover it's all a matter of giving Kerry something to think about, and holding back is never going to sucker an outfit like the Kingdom. For what it's worth the Dubs set about playing the same way every time they go out, they don't indulge in creating illusions, just delivering a performance. I knew right after the draw with the Rossies that Mayo were ready to deliver and I feel there's a lot more there for Sunday week.

More to the point , why was he allowed to sleep-walk his way in on goal in the first place?
Higgins goal was very similar.
Yous were bate out the gate lad so mayaswell take it on the chin and move on..
Next years your year :)

The defending was shocking by Roscommon. That's a different point to the point I was making in my post which is that a referee and his officials should not miss a foul double bounce for a goal in an All-Ireland quarter Final.

Agreed.Mayo were tuned in from the start last Monday and Ros were never at the races.None of that though excuses officials missing a foul double bounce goal in an All -Ireland quarter Final in Croke Park which should not be happening. One thinks of a video ref in rugby matches and how meticulous rugby officials are about the correctness of their decision making.

We simply didn't turn up for that replay and worst of all when things went wrong early on no reaction came and we threw the towel in too early. Very disappointing when i know we can do so much better, credit to Mayo though they brought they A game and looked like a side that had a point to prove on the day, Kerry will have to be at their best to beat them and if Kerry defend the same way as they defended against Galway then I'd fancy Mayo to win.

Best of luck to our neighbours, the Connacht champions may have left competition but its up to you guys to keep that Connacht flag flying high now.

Too sick to go near Hoganstand until now but have to come on and complement a brilliant on and off field performance from Mayo last Sunday. Pundits with their typical herd mentality tripped over themselves after drawn match to say neither team would win an All Ireland before even talking about the game itself. That position had to be revised again after last Sunday and Mayo will be extremely competitive from here on in.

The very best of luck to Mayo , they dont get half enough credit for what they have achieved over the last 5 years.

My thoughts exactly. Please go on and win it now.

Fair play. Hopefully Mayo show up like they did last Monday and then who knows?

From Shane Stapleton column:

A final point to those who still feel Mayo's best chance has come and gone. If you were to take the team that hammered Roscommon and drop Keegan back into the team in place of Chris Barrett (for example), the average age of the outfield players who willstart against Kerry is just 25.07 years of age. Still think they're past it?

Only 3 players that started against roscommon were under 25 (Harrison, durcan and doc). I think the average age is about 28.
