Main camera placement in PUC

(Oldest Posts First)

So this probably seems like a shallow peeve, but I think its worth calling out. I was just disappointed today with the placement of the main camera for the match in Páirc Uí Chaoimh, facing and showing the single tier stand for the entire match. So much money ploughed into PUC, and the standout feature is the multi-tiered stand. Its as impressive as you'd see in any ground in Europe, and could really elevate the tele-visual spectacle, at least. And yet, if someone just tuned into the match in progress, they wouldn't know it existed, and would just see the smaller single tiered stand.

Again, this might not really matter. But if you're going to put that much effort into stadium redevelopment, at least have it shown in its best light, and use it as the promotional tool for the game it can be. I guess basically, I wanted people to tune into this game, and see that this has the trappings of a top sporting occasion, comparable to anything else in Europe.

I realize its not the end of the world, but anyone else kind of disappointed by this? Or feel like its a wasted opportunity to show the stadium in its best light?

I'd imagine that it was chosen because it was the best one from which to view the game. The purpose of the camera placement is to show the game in the best way, not to show the ground it's being played in.

Yeah, I know what the main point of the camera is, I wasn't suggesting that actually televising the game was a secondary concern. But you can walk and chew gum at the same time.

by the sounds of things, the overall placement of the stadium is a far bigger worry

I agree, it is just aesthetics and obviously easier to have media in the bigger stand, but it would be nicer to see the main stand.
Also thought the terraces were a bit far back behind the goals.

But at least they have 2 covered stands, can't understand why so many grounds have only 1 covered stand. It is more costly but this is Ireland.

Did anyone else find it difficult to see the sliotar on tv when it was going into the terrace Clare were playing into in the second half (i.e. the left hand side goals as you watch on tv)? It was because the empty parts of the terrace were light greyish in colour. It was the first match I can remember where you couldn't always tell if the ball was over the bar.

I always am amazed that after many controversies over the years over was it or not a point that the GAA have continued to use white balls and goal posts in both football and hurling. It would be much better if gaol posts and the balls were different colours. (By the way I see the striped goal posts are gone from the pairc) This would apply to this situation as well.
