Kilkenny fans booing/ironically cheering frees

(Oldest Posts First)

what is with this?i noticed it a couple of years ago in wexford park for the first time,i noticed it in nowlan park, they were at it in wexford park earlier this year, then saturday night was the worst i had ever heard it.
it seems that they think every referee is against them, every free against them is wrong, and eventually every referee is making up to them, hence the ironic cheers.
it annoys the hell out of me,and ironically it comes from the county who has probably produced less referees than any other county.if the game is being refereed wrongly, where are all the kk referees to show how it is done?
i have great respect for kilkenny fans most of the time, but they let themselves down with this nonsense.
why do they keep doing this?or is it the world is against kilkenny is the mentality?

To be fair Pinkie, notwithstanding Wexford deserving the win, several neutral posters on here were of the opinion that the ref rode us in Wexford Park. Now, if neutral posters are thinking it, it's hardly surprising if Kilkenny fans are thinking it too.

Wow, I didn't start this thread!!
But, while I am here, I do agree, I think the booing is a bit ridiculous! Decisions go for and against teams all the time. I thought the referee on Saturday did well in the circumstances, it was a tough game to referee and he did his best.
I don't like the cheering wides, booing, etc either, and my own county were cheering wides against Kilkenny and I hated it. Respect the team, respect your opponent, respect the referee.

Kilkenny don't exactly have a monopoly on this behaviour. You will get "fans" from every county at this lark. Doesn't make it any less annoying and I do find it a little cringe worthy when Dublin fans do it.

Bring it up now Pinkie. Love your timing.

Kilkenny have some of the worst supporters going. Tends to get very heated in the stands if you;re in any way close to them. Some guy gave me a clip at the 2012 replay when they score a goal before half time.
They seem to have a huge issue with teams putting it up to them physically.
Great to see them gone so early.

The 2 Wexford posters, who sound like twins, Pinkie and Perfect, are very active today!

As a third Wexford poster I'd like to say I think Kilkenny were harshly treated in general on Saturday and I believe in most games

What now? I have always been active on here, and call it as I see it, good and bad.
I already said I don't think Kilkenny are alone in the context of the original post, my own county cheer wides which I absolutely loathe, but also I do not agree with it.
I don't know if the twin brother agrees with it, sorry!

I suppose Brian Gavin wasn't on the whistle. He likes KK so he does.

Ye might have a chance in the All-Ireland final this year with Kilkenny gone.

I can honestly say I've stood and sat beside Kilkenny fans for years and never heard any booing towards Tipp.
However in the early years of the rivalry 09 I heard some of our own crowd at it when we played KK but I think there's a fairly mutual respect between Tipperary and KK now even after all the hard tough and sometimes bloody ridiculous games I.e. 2012.
I can understand their frustration Saturday evening that was a soft free to give Waterford a chance to win the game and any set of fans would be pretty peed off with the decision.
I can only imagine if it was given against Tipp the ref would still be locked in the dressing room till September at least!!

The only time Kilkenny fans got under my skin was 2013 when a huge cheer went up from the stand when Corbett pulled his hamstring, I was thought that was poor behaviour.

Other than that, I have never witnessed Kilkenny fans being obnoxious towards the opposition.

Some load of rubbish!!!! Can anybody name a county that does not have its 'passionate' supporters who don't at times boo a referee? No referee makes all the perfect calls all of the time in every match. When passions are high its natural for people to get upset if a call does not go their way... look at any team... Carlow supporters booed the Dubs!!!! It is not the preserve of any set of supporters. Kilkenny are no better or worse that most other counties. Their supporters in general have more insight into the game of hurling than many other counties as its their game but that does not mean that they don't have their fans who boo. We all have them. Sadly.
Do they have referees on National Panels - yes they have. Have they as many as other counties - no. Why not? I don't know! Maybe because they are content to referee in Kilkenny only. The number of referees has little to do with booing!!!

Was there not someone here decrying Dublin fans for booing when free's were being taken? Indicating it was a flaw in our character - I thought it was just a Dublin disease along with outragous thuggery like pitch invasions, and taking out Linesmen (oops I mean touching!).

All coming out of the wood work this week, wonder why.

That's an outrageous paint everyone with the one brush statement about a counties supporters.

Did some oul wan poke you with an umbrella?

Every county has support they'd rather not have. Go on and win your all-ireland as you should with the panel you have and forget about the small stuff.

'Lowballplease'.....

Don't be looking for ball delivered on a plate, win it low, win it high, win it 30/70 and whatever way it's sent into you.

I think Kilkenny have been harshly treated by referees for a few years. Eamon Sweeney or Colm Keys (I can't remember which) wrote a good article about this during the league. Basically they said that since Kilkenny were known to have physically dominated teams during the last decade, there seems to be an attitude that it's open season on bringing dirt against Kilkenny nowadays and very difficult for Kilkenny to win frees compared to other teams. If you look at it Kilkenny have been on the receiving end of a number of big decisions in big matches. Davy Glennon dive for a free in 2012 all Ireland final to earn a replay, free awarded against Brian Hogan in 2014 drawn all Ireland final which gave Bubbles chance to win all Ireland, only a yellow for Johnny Coen for tackle on Fennelly in 2015 all Ireland final. These are the biggest stage, all Ireland finals, so it's not a coincidence. And the free given to Waterford for last puck of normal time last Saturday is another bad call against them, although Waterford deserved to win that game anyway.

I've been going to inter county games for over 40 years and I find Kilkenny fans among, if not THE most sporting and knowledgable hurling people in the game.
