Is it time for a new GAA TV Model?

(Oldest Posts First)

Could a similar TV Model that the AFL has in Australia work for the GAA in Ireland? I believe it could and I've written a short piece about it. Click the link to access it. What do you think? Could this work? What are the cons to it?

I'd like to see any TV deal force companies to show the Rackard, Ring & Meagher cup games, maybe not live but definitely 20 minutes highlights per game. I'd also like to see them asked to cover minor and under 21. At present TG4 do an excellent job with the Under 21 grade but more & more the big companies only want the Senior Grade & only want the top teams.

Would it be possible in Ireland. We don't have regional programming in Ireland like they do in larger countries. I'm just speculating but it could be expensive to set something like this up and I'm struggling to see other applications of it beyond GAA.

Agreed. Some of the best games come in the u21, minor and club scene. Any TV deal would have to either incorporate these grades or a separate deal would have to be created for them. The Sunday Game Highlights show currently doesn't do justice to the majority of games at the weekend & the Christy Ring/ Nicky Rackard cup games. Maybe a separate highlights show mid week could be an option for this?

With the amount of technological advances in recent years it cannot be too hard to set up. With the introduction of Digital TV a few years ago I'm sure it wouldn't but that big of a deal to get up & running but again similar to yourself I'm only speculating.
