Donegal were slightly the better team on Saturday evening and I hope they progress further in the championship, a nice bunch of supporters. Poor old Andy McEntee was warned a few times and told to stay in his box by the match officials. And then we had this Donegal mentor, presume he is part of Rory Gallaghers backroom team and dressed in a darkish coloured tee shirt and tracksuit bottoms who must have made a 100 excursions onto the field. His trick was often running from one sideline to the other. And at times after Meath had got a score and sometimes as the Meath keeper was about to take a kick out. The odd time he gave the referee a large dose of the verbals. Obviously its part of Donegals game plan to slow up matters or have a word with the match official. But how in hecks name did he get away with it? Did he know the referee? Just who is this guy? Triple H (Meath) - Posts: 551 - 10/07/2017 14:47:45 2014124 Link 0 |
but sure the referee was too concerned about watching how far andy was from his area, to see what was going on on the field of play.

Brilliant caption to be fair. His name is Maxi Curran and I agree with you. He should get off the pitch . I find it embarrassing if I am honest. Same in every match . TheRightStuff (Donegal) - Posts: 1688 - 10/07/2017 14:58:23 2014142 Link 4 |
That sounds like the famous Maxi Curran. He does during every game. In particular in tight games he will run on to disrupt the opposition kickouts. How he has got away with it for so long is beyond me.

Yeah that's Maxi. He irritates me no end with his posturing on the field. I don't know what he thinks he's doing. Embarrassing stuff really. Lockjaw (Donegal) - Posts: 9073 - 10/07/2017 15:02:12 2014149 Link 0 |
His name is Maxi Curran and is Rory Gallagher's second in command. He does this every single match and the Donegal supporters are are really fed up with him. This sums up the RG regime for me, they want to micro manage every single situation. In last year's Ulster Final every time we had a kcikout, he came on to tell the goalie where to kick it. It would be doing the Donegal players a favour if they banned him from running on to the pitch. Green_Gold (Donegal) - Posts: 1870 - 10/07/2017 15:08:58 2014159 Link 3 |
He's always at it. To be honest I'm baffled that he/they still gets away with it. Donegal managment should have been spoken to about this long ago. GaaGaa78 (UK) - Posts: 285 - 10/07/2017 15:13:27 2014164 Link 0 |
Is he the fella that got planted on his a*s a few years back in an Ulster Championship match during what gaa pundits like to call a 'melee'? GaaGaa78 (UK) - Posts: 285 - 10/07/2017 15:18:31 2014169 Link 0 |
yet our manager barely goes outside the technical area and he gets spoken to a few times.

Was that not the team doctor in an All-Ireland quarter final against Armagh? Could have been 2014.

Exactly! Mind the time in the International Rules away back, might have been 2006 when the wee dog ran onto the pitch and started chasing the ball?

Ah that is great, love this bit, He resigned as a selector for the senior team in 2013.[10] McGuinness ousted him. McGuinness got rid of both him and RG and the following year got the whole way to the All-Ireland final.

As other Donegal supporter have said it annoys us too. I actually don't think its intended to slow down the play. He is at it after 2 minutes in the game. In my mind it shows that the management are not sure of their tactics. Players should know what they are expected to do and unless there is a enforced substitution that somehow changes tactics then I don't see a need for what he does. dstuction (Donegal) - Posts: 1209 - 10/07/2017 15:43:20 2014202 Link 0 |
Worse than that against us was positioning someone in the crowd behind nial morgan who kept throwing a ball on to disrupt his kickout. Took ages for officials to catch on to it. Not much made of it after probably because it was such a tanking but really what is the point? Was fairly pathetic. redhanddefender (Tyrone) - Posts: 913 - 10/07/2017 16:00:23 2014213 Link 0 |
Maoir foirne is allowed on during break in play so he broke no rules

Get real Donegal were getting beat by 5 points in the first half and the ball was still been thrown in. hardly a tactic.

That was really annoying alright but I don't think it was anything to do with Maxi Curran. It was happening to the Donegal keeper as well in the second half. Anyway not sure how could he position someone in the crowd to get every single ball that goes wide. I do love a good conspiracy theory though.
