I kniw these are down for a double header in Cork. It makes sense in terms of giving a big game to a revamped stadium. However I hear there is only 45k capacity. Just looking at the teams that will be involved and surely 11k per county is not going to be enough? 1798man (Wexford) - Posts: 164 - 03/07/2017 09:32:18 2009371 Link 0 |
It won't be in Croke park anyway. catch22 (USA) - Posts: 2148 - 03/07/2017 09:45:02 2009389 Link 0 |
Don't think it will be Thurles with the Hurling final there on Sunday. Croke park would be the obvious double header but the Gaa will want 2 gates so can't see that happening either. Inaroundehouse (Cavan) - Posts: 975 - 03/07/2017 09:50:42 2009392 Link 0 |
In 2015 Thurles hosted qualifiers on the Saturday evening and the Munster final on the Sunday. I'm sure this will be the case again this weekend coming. Hayes Hotel will knock out a fair few chicken curry's this weekend Ban (Westmeath) - Posts: 1415 - 03/07/2017 10:08:20 2009404 Link 0 |
If Cork lose the Munster Final, the Q/F are on separate days in Páirc Uí Chaoimh. If that happens Cork will have to be the first game and it will sell out, Wexford will have a decent crowd to contribute to an overall 35k+ attendance in the second match. These games will be on different days. The only worry if Clare are in the Q/F and the GAA may try and push both games on the same day and I believe that would be the wrong call. The GAA will think about revenue and that will make their decision for them. CletusVanDamme (Kerry) - Posts: 63 - 03/07/2017 10:16:41 2009413 Link 0 |
If Wexford play Tipp, surely HQ is the only place to have it? Pinkie (Wexford) - Posts: 4100 - 03/07/2017 10:28:59 2009435 Link 0 |
If Tipp get over Dublin and manage to meet Wexford or perhaps Clare given the Munster final result those games would draw 30k. WildPundit (Tipperary) - Posts: 1709 - 03/07/2017 10:47:51 2009463 Link 0 |
Wexford brought 45k to Croke Park yesterday. Surely they would do the same for a quarter final. Pinkie (Wexford) - Posts: 4100 - 03/07/2017 11:17:42 2009480 Link 0 |
PUC will get at least on QF cos the Cork county board would be extremely pissed off otherwise after GAA saying the QF would be in the new stadium. Killarney.87 (Tipperary) - Posts: 2513 - 03/07/2017 12:29:53 2009551 Link 0 |

I'm sure Dublin agreed probably with some game time in Croker next year for the footballers. WildPundit (Tipperary) - Posts: 1709 - 03/07/2017 13:56:46 2009626 Link 0 |
Misery? Try following the Wexford hurlers for the past 14 years if you want to see misery!

I know Pinky Tipp win an All-Ireland and dissapear for a few years!! Amazing how Kilkenny done it year after year. You'd bite your hand off for a 1996 all over again. We were just talking about it in work today and remember in the second half no Wexford back gave away a free in the second half. Phenomenal ye could have done with that type of defence yesterday. I know ye are only starting to lay the foundations but a bit more composure yesterday and ye were in with a great shout. WildPundit (Tipperary) - Posts: 1709 - 03/07/2017 15:45:41 2009728 Link 0 |
Why should Cork be ****** off. We have just as big a stadium in Limerick and the Gaelic Grounds never got an All Ireland quarter final in hurling and we are surely more central to more hurling counties than Cork. I think it is especially scandalous that after beating KK and reaching a Leinster Final, that Wexford have to travel all the way to Cork to play in a quarter final.

hear hear - sundays munster final should be in limerick - but cork prefer thurles - what cork want cork get remember 2014 munster final the park restricted to 32k when both thurles and limerick had bigger grounds - but what cork want cork get now cork have the big fancy stadium so they are getting the quarter finals - fair enough - but where was this fair play when the gaelic grounds was redone. Its a fine stadium and has shown to be capable of hosting big games in the past should wait until quarters are known before naming venues , Would nowlan park be able to hold wexfords quarter final, bear in mind they probably wont get same level of support as for leinster final janesboro (Limerick) - Posts: 1502 - 03/07/2017 16:02:25 2009745 Link 0 |

If they insist on going ahead with cork for the the quarter finals then I do think one of them will need to be moved to the Saturday. tearintom (Wexford) - Posts: 1328 - 03/07/2017 16:30:36 2009784 Link 0 |
I didn't say it was fair Limerick people. You could argue there was no need for another stadium. Killarney.87 (Tipperary) - Posts: 2513 - 03/07/2017 16:39:20 2009798 Link 0 |
