Tomas O Se - the King of Yerra

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Tomas O Se in Saturday's Independent:

"I notice Cork being quoted at 11/2 to beat Kerry in Killarney tomorrow, a huge price for a Munster final. They're odds that will be making Eamonn Fitzmaurice a little queasy because, no matter how poorly Cork are ever going, they'll always fancy themselves to give the Kingdom a serious rattle.

"If I was a Kerry footballer today, I'd be very wary of this game.

"They'll relish this crack at Kerry given bookies' odds that have them down as road-kill. That makes them dangerous."

Now, even a football ignoramus from Kilkenny like myself could see that Cork and Kerry's respective form coming into today's match, and the fact it was in Killarney too, pointed to nothing other than a Kerry trashing being on the cards, so why does such an experienced and decorated ex-Kerry footballer such as O Se insist on insulting the intelligence of GAA fans by spinning the old "yerra twill be a hard fought match" line, when surely he must have known it would be anything but.

If he was still playing or involved in the Kerry set-up, I could understand him plamásing the opposition, but he's a pundit now, he should have the cajones to say when he expects Kerry to win handy.

Unless he actually thought Cork were seriously going to put it up to Kerry, in which case I won't be looking to Tomas for tips this year.....

The Yerra merchants were out in force all week pretending that they thought Cork had a chance today. It wasn't just Tomás, the whole Ó Sé clan was tipping Cork for a big performance.

It's so patronising and disrespectful because you know that they don't believe a word of what they're saying. It's basically trolling Cork football.

Classic Kerry stuff

Using their privileged media positions to peddle their pro Kerry agenda

Talking up teams, down playing their own, going after rival players, rival styles of play.. all in their own interests

Have been doing it for years

Give it a rest will ya? This is one of the few topics on here not about Dublin. Isn't there enough others on here for you and the rest of the Dubs to carry on your bleating and wallow in your victimhood?

Kerry are afraid of loosing to Cork in particular, hence the cautious aul waffle.

the same tactics being adopted by the media about dublin v kildare

ah kildare will be a real challenge for the dubs... absolute nonsense, everyone knows that dublin will professional dismantle kildare and get the job done. similar to kerry today. cork hadn't a prayer in the same way kildare haven't a prayer despite what the yerra merchants may want you to believe both in threads on here and in the meeja

TBH

In General Given up listening to what any of the clan say in particular if Kerry are involved

I'd give Thomas some airtime if the game is neutral as I'd value perspective of any player that played at his level and who is reasonably articulate

Dara's stuff has always been tripe /" yerra when Paidi was so cute we made the mayo lads pay twice for a taxi to ventry" and that's what won us the league Game in 2003

Not just kerry at the same stuff. Dan Shanahan was bigging up Offaly so much before they played Waterford that it was a wonder Waterford dared turn up.

In the end Waterford had over 20 points to spare.

Best one was dublin defender johnny cooper live on tv after dublin drew the winners of carlow v wexford.

"Its gonna be a tough one for us"

The best yerra of all was Eamon Fitzmaurice saying Tipp were all the better for losing 10/11 players last year. He made those comments ahead of the Munster Final.

They must have a team of plastice surgeons down in Kerry to keep their faces straight when they are coming out with guff like that.

I love how a Kilkenny poster created the thread but people are only disagreeing with the Dub posters comments.

In the noughties Tyrone slammed 3 torpedoes into the ship of Yerra. Upset a lot of the first class passengers who didn't have time to reach for the sick bags and so they were all forced to endure the spectacle of stem to stern puke. Captains Spillane and O'Keefe were at a loss and even though younger officers were sent in to get things back on an even keel, the presence of blue blooded pirates and hillbillies from somewhere else have prevented the Yerra from regaining her previous majesty, or at least the illusion of royal Kingdomship. Doesn't mean they'll be giving up though...

Ah yes as inevitable as the sun rising is the usual crew on here coming out from under their rocks the day after a televised Kerry game to share their tuppence worth.

Keep it up boys as John Lennon used sing - whatever gets you through the night ....

I dont know about yerra. But he certainly hasn't a clue when it comes to analysis of a game, seriously last night he said Sligo nearly had a goal and they were only 2 points down!!!
Thomas firstly at that time (end of game, Meath were 3 points up, the goal would have meant extra time) the point that Sligo got was last kick of ball from the near goal opportunity.
More serious, was his WRONG assertion that Meath fans booed team at end of game (or so he was told( I was at match there was not one boo, it wasn't going bat poo crazy with excitement but id say I was more relief than anything else.
To come out with these sort of lies and not be pulled up by anyone is disgusting.
Can RTÉ not send the person to game who will actually be analysing it?. Honestly a great player, but he needs his p45 from rte.

I think people have missed my point in the opening post where it's understandable that a current player, manager or someone involved in the backroom team may engage in Yerra. That's one of the main reasons why I avoid player/manager interviews like the plague.

But Tomás Ó Sé is supposed to be an expert analyst, he should be above that.
