What if.. each county could choose only one sport?

(Oldest Posts First)

What if each county could choose either hurling or football and enter the league and championship of only that sport? What would the leagues and championships look like? Kilkenny would clearly choose hurling and many counties would obviously choose football. What about the others?

Hurling
Kilkenny
Waterford
Tipp
Clare
Wexford
Limerick

Uncertain but probably all more likely hurling

Cork
Galway
Antrim
Offaly
Carlow

Football all the rest, with a small question mark over Laois

Dublin would be football, hurlers would have to relocate to nearby counties

Would Limerick's #1 sport not be rugby?

Yes, but West Cork is all football so their players would play for Kerry (if any would make the team of course).

Also to make expand on my point, many counties would have football or hurling areas. Sometimes because of geography, Offaly and Laois hurling strongholds in areas close to Tipp and Galway for example.

However, Kerry hurling area is very close to the part of limerick that happens to be strong footballing country. Or even the part of Tipp that is football (although most the county is overwhelmingly hurling) is right next to the hurling heartlands of Cork, Waterford and Kilkenny.
