Right call but Jesus how did it take so long? Do they put players who are out of the Championship on the long finger because why not? The game was last Saturday week. The CCCC needs a proper timetable, none of this behind closed doors business with different schedules for different counties.

This is a joke
The guy kicked the ball back towards the goalposts and it hit the umpire
how on earth does he deserve a suspension?

If it's the right call then the rules are daft.
Completely over the top punishment.
Was it deliberate ? Who decided it was his intention ?

Have you seen the incident? I haven't myself. Where can I get a look at it? I thought I heard he kicked the ball at the umpire? Again where did you see it?

Um what? Everybody has been bleating on about consistency. Whole point of consistency is everyone receives the same treatment. Doesn't matter if you're a Dublin God or a junior F player waiting for Jim Gavins call. Minor physical inference means he will play no gaa football at any level: training or matches. Because Louth are knocked out should have no relevance to the suspension. The punishment is the punishment no matter who you are.

Thankfully the GAA doesn't issue bans based on how well the player's club/county will fair in the current season. The rules are the rules, if you are unhappy with equality please put a motion to congress.

I was at the match and to me he just kicked the ball out of frustration and it hit the umpire. The umpire alerted the ref and the ref send him off. He was the third Louth player to be send off. He will be a huge loss to his club Hunterstown who would be there or there about's in this years Louth Inter Championship.

It was on the Sunday game highlights programme the night of the Louth v longford game. The ball was out near corner flag and he kicked it back goal bound, it hit the umpire in the back, impossible to say he ment it.

I seen it earlier. Looked like he was just kicking the ball back frustratedly to the back of the goal and hit the umpire. Umpire in fairness didnt make a big deal. Ref sent him off. 12 weeks is a bit much.

I did. I posted the YouTube link on it as well in a later post. It is 12 weeks ban. I would like to know why you don't think it's even a red card?

haven't seen the incident but sounds harsh. Again it's back to the old interpretation of a rule, and the gaa are now handing out 12wks for any incident deemed minor interference. Now if a player goes for goal and it hits an umpire up the gob { maybe waken some of them up a bit and follow what's going on in front of their noses } is he going to be charged by the ref on the day or retrospectively? A can of worms has now been opened which is going to be hard to close. Just goes to show that week bans is no punishment, if you are from a lower county whose season is over in june though a bigger loss to his club activities, from a higher profile county again your season is probably gone and also a big loss to club activity. Game bans in the said code should be brought in without the rest of the punishment of no gaa activity. A great way of putting younger lads off playing gaa, twiddling your thumbs while your mates are playing and training and your ostracised like a lepper.

Should Louth get the same national coverage as the Dubs in every aspect of the game? Maybe they should get the same level of funding too.

I was at the game and yes he did kick the ball in frustration as him and a Longford defender tussled for the ball at the end line .The ball went over the line and it was a hard call whether it went off Burns or the Longford defender, the umpire signalled wide.
Burns gave the ball a lash with his boot back in frustration or his eagerness to get the ball back to Longford goalie to start the game again as time was running out and Louth needed scores.
The umpire wasn't in his usual spot at the post , he had moved out on the end line to get a view of the jostle for the ball.
Not a shred of evidence to say Burns done it deliberately to hit the umpire, the umpire just happened to be a position where the ball struck him.

Where did I say he deserved it? I simply said the same offence should be punished with the same suspension as any other player. Which is what happened.
